I will concede that we have not done enough for border security, and that does fall on Bush's shoulders.

The function of government is two fold:

1) protect the citizens of the United States at all cost (which is what we are doing now)

Why shouldn't everyone be guaranteed a job?
Why shouldn't everyone be guaranteed to live with dignity. Its the 1%of the world population the control 90% of the money. Just think of the social problems that could be helped if that 200 billion was spent on the poor or under educated and homeless in this country. We all say " well I take care of my family, I make sure their feed and have a roof over thei heads"
The problem is we don't truly see just how big "Our family" is. Until we all take responsiblity for the social problems the plague America, then nothing will change.
The problem of unemployment is real. In the 50's a family of 4 could live on what Dad made and mom stayed home. Now it takes mom and dad working more than 60 hours a week to just get by. why? Why is milk almost $4 a gallon. A car cost more now than a 3 bed room house did in 1965. why? When was the last time minimum wage was increased...1994-95? Why?
The answer is we as a race have the thought that there is "not enough".
Not enough money
Not enough time
Not enough of anything.
This thought of not enough of anything has motivated us through fear to take what we can, at the expense of the next guy.
This war on terror is not a war but a business endevor.
I tell you, I for one would rather have a good job and medical coverage for my family and live with terrorism. Than be homless, unemployed and no terrorists. You lose your job you have nothing. Many are living that today. And they do feel useless. Our focus is misdirected. Our fear of terrorism, staged and directed on que. A government or religion has more power if fear is strong. Ask your parents and grandparents if they feel they could successfully raise a family all over again with today economic problems. I'm not saying Kerry is the answer or Bush is the problem. I'm saying that for where we want to go as a nation, we're taking the long way to get there.

First of all, we are not a socialist country. Socialism has been a failure.

Moreover, you know why everyone can't have a job? Because then capitalism doesn't work. It fails. There is no such thing an entreprenuerial upstart because there are no people to employ in a new business endeavor. Progress will completely stop. We will go absolutely nowhere. That's why.

On top of that, you being a human being gives you entitlement to....NOT A FUCKING THING! Other than, of course, the freedom to pursue that which will make you happy. So you're alive? Big whoopty-fucking do!!! Life ain't easy and it isn't self-sustaining. You must DO something to continue to live.

Money, a house, a nice car, a swimming pool, etc. are all outward indicators of the amount of effort you've put into your life and your work. Yeah, sure, some people work their asses off in low paying jobs. Sucks, trust me. However, there's WAY more people who turn their noses up at the opportunity to make more money(overtime) than there is people who'll do it.

You figure out where the problem is. Here's a hint: It's in people wanting a lot but not being willing to do what is necessary to achieve those goals.

I'm still confused about this concept of the "noble unemployed". Yes, there are people who would otherwise be happy to show up to work everyday and work their nuts off, but they took it in the ass.

However, most of the unemployed LIKE it. I have the sneaking suspicion that Mr. Rooster is young as hell and has never had a full time job.

I worked/lived in a small, industrial hick town. I'll tell you what; people prayed to be layed off first so that they could start collecting 70% and hang out at the bar all day. I know poeple who failed their drug tests on purpose so that they wouldn't have to go back to work.

Ever listened to people at work? All they do is bitch about how they have to be there and how they'd rather do something else and how there's never enough vacation and how they can't wait to retire and how the weekend is too short and how they can't wait until the weekend is here again and...I hope I made that sufficiently annoying enough and similar to the way people bitch at work.

The first one, probably because we live in capitalism, and doing such would be deemed unconstitutional. (Specifically the 5th Amendment.)

As for the second statistic, is has been proven OVER AND OVER AND OVER, that the reason a family of 4 could live on just dad's income was that we (today) are a nation of spenders. Back then, the family had 1 one car (remember "Can I borrow the car for Sunday, Dad?"), paid cash for any large purchases, and rarely took vacations.

Nowadays, every member of the family needs their own car (Mom, Dad, 20 year old Jim and 18 Year old Jenny) and Mom and Dad HAVE to drive the latest high-priced SUV. No one if the 50's except the elite rich drove foreign cars, now there are people who drive Mercedes who make 40K per year.

It has been shown, that with the current value of the America dollar, the average person MAKES COMPARATIVLY MORE money than did their 1950's or 1960's counterparts. PEOPLE ARE FINANCIALLY MAKING MORE MONEY TODAY!

The problem is people needs have changed, and people just want more. More cars, more vacations, more credit-cards. This wasnt the case in 1950.

Oh BTW, did you know 75% of people on welfare have 1 or more cars, and 90% of those on welfare have color TV's with cable?

The reason we shouldnt throw money at the poor is that IT WILL NOT HELP! The people are poor because they ARENT GOOD WITH MONEY. They have holes in their pockets and that is why they are poor. Any poor person can get a minimum wage job SOMEWHERE, live in a crappy apartment, save their money, work their way up in businesses or start their own, and live above the poverty line. They CHOOSE not to.

If you think it isnt a choice, they you havent met many poor people. I meet them all the time at the DA's office, and trust me; it isnt society's fault, IT IS THEIR OWN.
