Eat or no eat before work out?

I quit eating before my work out in the morning. Trying to drop more weight than I am. I still drink a pre work out. But no food or shakes. Is this helping me or not.

I always prefer people eat before training. Even though you’re trying to lose weight, you don’t want to sacrifice your training as it helps with fat loss.

Fasted for cardio is fine, but for training you should absolutely at a minimum consider EAAs and some liquid carbs if you’re training first thing. Whole food preferable but that can be tough for some people.

I think it's still very individual. Science likely backs having at least some sort of protein and fats/carbs for fuel. I don't eat a ton before a workout and hop up on carbs like some do. Around 150 cals or so and nearly all that is protein and fats as that's what I prefer.

See how you feel. I start my gym session at 5am. If I eat first I often feel sick and throw up after a tough workout. I tend to keep it light if anything like a little granola or a banana. You may feel fine with more food though, and if that’s the case then you should definitely eat.

Same, I'll maybe do a shake with a fruit / green powder. But if I actually eat I feel like ass and my workout suffers 9/10.

I'll usually do a shake before accessories and cardio though.

I'm doing a 1 mile run/walk for warm up then half body work out. Then half the next day. I still need to lose about 100 pounds or so also. That is why I was wondering if I quit eating before if it would give me an extra few calories to burn off every morning.

Talking out my ass here but don't you want a simple carb before a work out. For a fast source of energy and a good mix of protein and carbs after to refill your glycogen store's. Again could be but most likely talking out my ass here. Awe shit should of actually read and not skimmed sorry for the repeat

If i cant get good food into my tummy before a workout...juice. 50 grams of carbs from juice does the trick.
30 min pre workout to give some glycogen fuel. Not using protein/muscle for energy then. Then eat good with complex carbs protein and fat post workout. But even then,Try and get a cup of juice to refuel. Only time i drink juice.

edit- that is ONLY if i cant get any food in 1 hr pre workout.

How long is the run/walk? 15 minutes? If weight loss is the goal make it 20-25.

Ultimately losing weight is calories in vs out so I would eat a bit before (cereal! Lol) and then shave the calories later in the day if that is really the concern.

When I was a 5am guy not that long ago. I got up 1.5hrs early had a coffee, my protein and carb meal. On way to gym had eaa and carb drink, at gym eaa and carb drink, after gym protein shake, then home for another meal.

Yes weight loss is a main goal seeing how I hot a stomach like baloo lol but I'm also trying to get stronger and bigger too. I am in the process of a coach right this min. So I'm sure that will help alot. I am at the gym at 6am , I tried just a banana today. And feel really good so far. And yes about 12 to 15 min everyday. So I should go for 25 min instead.

My opinion and just my opinion..... I am cutting now as well. I concentrate on getting most of my food around my workout and less food away from my workout. Early workouts make it harder but still doable. Even a shake with some carbs, eaa, protein pre would help I think.
*edit* Basically do what works for you.

How do you feel without food pre-workout? If it doesn't detract in any way regarding your training then since you are trying to lose fat I would keep it out. If you cannot train with the intensity you normally do with a meal pre-workout I would keep it in.

I tried nothing pre-workout in the morning as I was in the fat loss phase as well but I tanked halfway through my workout.

I would have to opt towards eating before a weight session. I can get down with fasted AM cardio. Weights I'll at least have a protein shake and an outright bar. Or some cream of rice, chocolate syrup, and peanut butter. Lol. Love that shit pwo.

I used to hit the gym around 4am. For awhile i didnt have anything to eat just took some total war pwo and an eaa and cyclic dextrin intra. Workouts werent bad and i still made progress but when i started making overnight oats and smashing that real quick as soon as i woke up so it was digested by the time i got to the gym the difference was most definitely noticeable in terms of energy and endurance to have the ability to push myself harder through sets

I feel fine either way . I do always feel like I need a nap half way through the day though. But in my work out I'm good. So witch ever way to get a few more pound out the way would be best if im not messing anything up

I try to eat before my workout, and I will eat mid work out as well; either a protein bar, 4-5 egg whites, of protein powder. I never feel sluggish or tired because I'm not eating a massive amount of calories.

I was having GI issues and started doing intermittent fasting after trying almost everything. So far it has drastically improved my GI and overall energy. I never lifted fasted until a month ago. I am fucking hooked. I thought my lifts would suck but quite the opposite. I get a significant improvement with my mind muscle connection and have actually gotten stronger. My bf% dropped and I have never looked better. I was scared of low energy and not having constant calories going in. But, after giving it a month I am very very happy with the results.

Not trying to sell anything but there is so much new research showing increased performance and health benefits while fasted.

Plus that crash you all feel goes away in several days. Increased gh, igf, insulin sensitivity, increased performance, mental sharpness, improved bloodwork, it primes your digestion and let's your body cleanse itself. So many benefits but I must say I was scared to start it and lose hard earned muscle. But the only thing I have dropped is water weight and fat.
