Supplement alternatives/replacements

so in layman terms what brand Astagulus is acceptable for kidneys? Heres what ive been taking and honestly, meh idk im just using it up and wonder if i want to keep throwing money at these supplements , I appreciate your research

If I genuinely needed kidney support from dietary supplements:

Tl;dr: al3b's comments (favor polysaccharides) + ChatGPT (favors astragaloside IV) = I'd take both

The PureBulk Shiitake Mushroom Extract you linked is indeed standardized to ≥50% polysaccharides .

That means:

Each 1,000 mg serving = ~500 mg polysaccharides.

It’s a mushroom extract (Shiitake, not Astragalus), so the polysaccharides here are beta-glucans which is good for immune and antioxidant support, but not the same APS (Astragalus polysaccharides) that have kidney clinical data.

So it’s rich in polysaccharides, but it’s not the astragalus polysaccharides used for renal protection. It’s a different compound category with immune benefits.

Side-by-side with mine:

Both are “polysaccharides,” but different types:

- Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) = kidney RCT evidence.

- Mushroom beta-glucans = immune/liver support, no kidney trials.

- Zazzee = kidney-specific protection (evidence matches your goal).

- Shiitake = immune/liver support, not renal-focused.

Dam so even the type matters..

Wonder how legit are these..

Life Lab 70% polysaccharide powder = same quality standardization as my Zazzee.

They seem legit, especially since they standardize to 70% polysaccharides.

Good find , Thank you,

According to AI, this is the breakdown of that product and how much you would need and what amount of polysaccharides you would get , so @2 grams per day 250 g bag of that product would last roughly 4 months if my math is correct ;) at $27.67 per 250 g bag.IMG_3201.webp

I'm a bit late to this thread, but support supps (and supps in general) are my jam. Here are a few of my favorite brands:

I rotate between sales, etc if I can. However, personally, I spare no expense when it comes to support supps because I feel it's better to take as much of a preventative approach as opposed to a restorative one.

Just curious why bothering with supps for kidneys when Telmisartan is readily available?

That being said I’ve had good success with just sticking with a handful of specific supps with the most clinical evidence for organ support:

Liver
NAC - 1200mg split between am and pm. Empty stomach.
TUDCA - 1000mg split between am and pm. With or without food.

Kidneys
Astragalus - 1000mg split am and pm. With food.

HCT
No great supps for actually lowering HCT, only seem to affect viscosity. Just stick with donating.

NOW supplements consistently test well as per my consumerlab.com subscription.

Yes, Telmisartan is one of the best kidney-protection drugs you can use. But it only covers one pathway of kidney damage. PEDs, especially tren, hit the kidneys through multiple mechanisms.

Telmisartan doesn’t touch:
- oxidative stress, cytokine-driven inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, dehydration/osmotic strain, and tubular cell damage. That’s where supplements matter.

Astragalus, taurine, NAC, and omega-3s protect the tubules, reduce ROS, suppress inflammatory cytokines, and support glomerular filtration in ways Telmisartan alone cannot. So Telmisartan is the foundation, but the supplements fill in the gaps that drugs don’t cover.

The combination is what guarantees you full coverage kidney protection.

Another bump to this important topic. I have had great experiences with Justin Harris’ organ support supplements as well as his berberine (suppressor Max).

Code I use is AB10

He doesn’t have a heart specific one as of now. But I take CoQ10, MK7 K2, D3, fish oils (I take Vascepa Rx), statin, Zetia. I prefer to do this one piecemeal.

Would also add that there’s a therapeutic window for Astragalus dosing. Too much can be damaging.
