Making the switch to powerlifting, Gobuckeyes 2017 log

You and me both. I ditched the straps close to a year ago and haven't looked back. Always used straps rather than work on grip strength, not a good look lol. I applaud the effort
Thanks man, it has actually helped me in all my lifts bc I can grip the bar harder now. I didn't realize how important grip strength was. Now I laugh to myself when I see guys at my gym deadlifting with 225 and have straps on.

congrats brother!
i had a similar experince. when i first started this PL thing roughly a year and a half ago i used straps for most of my top sets. i didnt use them for a long time when i first started PLing. im back to using them on occasion to keep my hands in decent shape. my callus build up super fast and dropping a bar due to a callus tearing is equally as bad as not having the grip strength for it!

i dont think there is anything wrong with straps on occasion, as long as you have the grip strength for your top sets.

Overhead press day, or push press, whatever you wanna call it. I use leg drive to get more weight but not today, my legs are dead from yesterday. I barely got my sets of 5 up at 185. I didn't think I was going to finish my last set, but I got it.
There was this young kid in my gym this morning trying to squat 405. He couldn't even get 315 but he kept adding weight to the bar. He Would walk back, go down 6 inches and re rack it like it was a good set. I told one of the guys at the gym that I wasn't helping him when all that weight falls on him, he just started laughing. Thank god he realized 405 was way to much bc he couldn't even get it off the pins.

Possible candidate for the Darwin awards??

Squats!!!!!! My favorite day!! I nailed 3x3 385. The only hiccup I had was my walk out on my last 2 sets. Both times I forgot which leg I usually lead with and ended up hitting the squat rack with the weights. I almost lost it on the 2nd time bc I thru my balance off. I still managed to do the sets but fuck. I gotta get my shit together.
From taking the weekend off I felt fan fucking tastic this morning. I could have easily done more weight. I'm going to keep this schedule bc it seems to work.

I hate bench press. I really hate it, I don't know why everybody always ask me, how much ya bench bro? Fuck that, i did work up to 3x3 275. I started to get into my old habit of not bringing the bar over my chest, and I felt it in my left elbow. I corrected it as soon as I did it but I already felt it kinda feel funny. So we shall see if it hurts or not.

I also think I'm addicted to powerlfitng. Every since I started a couple months ago, it's all I think about. I spend most of my free time looking up powerlfitng related stuff. I talk about it to everybody, I don't like the weekends bc I'm not lifting, i think I have a serious problem lol
You have been bitten by the bug. Your bench is all about technique. Scapulars retracted, arched back, which the if your scaps are retracted it will help get that arch some. Traps, shoulders on bench, leg drive. When you start the press work on activating your lats to initiate the push at same time driving your legs. Once you get this equipment you will like or love bench. It's almost like a recovery day after deads and squats.

Yea I'm going to start really focusing on technique. I mean I thought I was already but apparently not. I'm reading now about proper bar path, that's what's holding me back. I don't go back then up when pressing. I also don't always lower it correctly.

Off day, slept in but still did some cardio and foam rolling. I seen the worst thing possible today, stupid people doing bicep curls in the squat rack. I couldn't believe, I almost wanted to go yell at them and call them douche bags.

My second favorite day, deadlift day!!! I worked up to 2x3 at 405. I only did 2 sets bc my hamstrings started getting really tight and I was shaking like a crack addict. But I didn't have to use any grip assistance. Just some chalk, which I love using, and gripping the bar as hard as I can. It's amazing how much better my lifts have gotten, the stronger my grip has become. It really does help to grip the bar as hard as you possible can, I never used to and take can't believe how stupid I was.
