Total agree with this. Relative vs absolute strength. As I get older I see the new need for relative strength. This will allow me to do more and actually put my strength to use in things I do on a daily basis.
I believe besides many of us not doing the proper warmups, static and dynamic is one reason for injury and or nagging pains.
The reason being is we as Powerlifters are always working in two planes of motion. Weather it be frontal and sagital. Which makes us fixed into those positions.
In order for the body to operate optimally from a relative strength standpoint or just to have over all health and longevity. We need to working through all planes of motion.
I'm not a fan of CrossFit due to the fact of having to do AMRAPS with Oly lifts. Which are very technical and once form breaks down it could be bad.
I did a form of CrossFit in the army which was relative to our mission. And I enjoyed. No Oly lifts. Just balls to the wall, sprints sled down drags, box jumps, kettle ball swings, pull ups, wall balls, push-ups with a dumbbell into a side plank, row machine push-ups on medicine balls. Then we'd finish with 100 push-ups and sit-ups.
