Bursitis/Tennis Elbow?

I've been having terrible pain in my right arm (was my left arm last time I hit the gym hard) right around the elbow. It got so bad I almost dropped the dumbbell when I was curling.

What do you guys recommend? It's hindering my workouts, but I don't want to go lighter. Anything work for you particularly well?

Work around the injury , dont aggravate it . Its a bitch and Ive had both tennis and golfers elbow and at the same time . I did hundreds of hours of PT but in the end I stopped doing curls and did only chin-ups and bent-over-rows which strengthened the muscles around the injury . I was only able to do concentration curls for a year . Im now pain-free going on 2 years .

Shit. How am I supposed to look like @Oregongearhead if I can't even curl?!?!

You dont need curls to build big biceps , just look at guys that only do chins or heavy rows and deadlifts they maintain stronger biceps then the "20 sets of curls guys" . Take a break fron direct curls and do compound exercises only (rows/chins/deads) with light/medium con curls 12 reps each arm . 3 sets of 2 . Thats how I beat it....

And if it hurts stop , switch to a different exercise ;)

Thanks for the tips bro

Thanks OGH

I got my bicep injuries primarily from bad hand placing on squats . Yes squats . If you hold the bar wrong (too wide) it can cause nerve pinch from the bar . I started holding the bar closer and making a cradle with back muscles to hold bar . No more bicep problems ! But it still took a good year to get right biceps again...

Damn. I'm looking up different exercises. Anything you can throw my way is appreciated bro.

Google and Youtube are probably the greatest help/teachers there is .
Just Google your symptoms and look on Youtube for Tennis elbow/Golfers elbow PT exercises , foam rolling , etc.

Have you been to a doctor or not? I like to use glucosamine, chondroitin, msm and fish oil supplements for my joints... Also look into trigger point therapy online it has done wonders for my elbow you have to be consistent and do it for at least a month is all.

No, it just started and happens whenever I hit the gym.

Look into compression cuffs, helped me out tremendously man. Almost night and day difference with and without them. I wear them with all pressing and some accessory work if it hurts and I'll not go back

I have been having the same issues bro.
For me it has effected both elbows off and on for the last 4 years. I've tried ice and ibuprofen to avail. This time it's the left arm and I haven't been able to do any type of curling for over 2 months. Any kind of pull movement causes bad pain and swelling.
With rows and curls causing the most problems. I recently came off a long blast and the inflammation didn't start until the final few months. I ended my cycle and went on a three week vacation to Indonesia. The plan was to give my whole body a break but more importantly give my sore arms a long rest. I didn't lift at all and the arm pain still never went away.
Started hitting the gym again this week and the swelling and pain kicked in after just two workouts. My point is taking 3 weeks off didn't help my issues at all.
In my personal opinion the only way to remedy the issue would be to take 2-3 months off. If your like me then not lifting for 3 months isn't an option. So I guess I'm just going to have to deal with the pain for now.

I've heard good things about those copper infused sleeves. I appreciate the tip and I'll check into them.

Wow, that sucks bro. I took a week off and instead of normal curls, I did 21's. No pain at all. When I did the reverse curl, I had to drop weight and that hurt me, but since I went easy, I didn't completely re-aggravate it. I did back yesterday, which really worried me but it went off without a hitch. So it looks like I'll have to just watch for what hurts and what works and stick with that.

You know what works when I had tennis elbow? Deep tissue/Sport Massage! I had the issue for over 6 months and was like FUCK!!!! I told the massage therapist to watch around my elbow because it hurts. I don't know what he did, but as he was working around my shoulder blade/lat area- I heard a loud pop and a numbing feeling shot up to the tips of my fingers... then he went back and lightly rub around the area. All I know is the next day, NO PAIN!!!!!

Now every 3 months I get a massage.. It made a whole world of difference to my squat and lifting!

Anyone ever tried acupuncture? I'm getting a free session this weekend and just wondering if anyone has seen benefits to it!
