Has there ever been a pro that didn't rely on many drugs to obtain his physique?

Danny Hester took a run at being natural as a pro. EAS when it was owned by the Phillips brothers sponsored him, paid him to be remain natural and use their products exclusively. The agreement fell apart with EAS and look at pics of Danny after it did.

The last natty bodybuilders were from the 50s and early 60s. The physiques they had were very very impressive considering no hormone use and very limited equipment. Hell, they had to clean and press the barbell before they were able to do squats... think about that for a minute.

West coast bodybuilders started using injectable testosterone in the late 1940s and experimented widely in the 1950s. Mr. Universe Bill Pearl used Nilevar in 1958. IFBB Mr. Olympia Larry Scott admitted that he, and practically all of the top competitive bodybuilders, were also using anabolic steroids by 1960.

Also, don't forget that Dianabol, Anadrol, Anavar, Winstrol, Halotestin, Equipoise, Durabolin, Deca Durabolin, Primobolan, Oral Turinabol, Masteron, Proviron and Trenbolone Acetate were all created between 1950 and 1965.

Interesting, I remember reading this huge article on how Steve Reeves was 100% natural for sure. With evidence of when chemicals had been invented Etc. It went into the history of bodybuilding and seemed pretty accurate. It certainly didn't say bodybuilders were using testosterone in the 1940s. I believe the article even said that would be impossible. I guess there's much more to read on the subject haha, you guys are way more knowledgeable than the internet.
Thanks for posting that info Millard, very specific knowledge there! That Bill Pearl info I had never heard before, crazy.

Was turinabol not created by the nazi for their swimming team?

I'm pretty sure it was the Russians , what I read was that's the direct reason Ziegler started working with Ciba to create dianabol .. He's was working with the US powerlifting team in the 52 Olympics and found out the Russians team was using tbol . right after that he started working with Ciba to create dbol for the Americans...but I guess that doesn't mean the Germans didn't make it now that I think about it , so you could be right about that one ..

These are pics of Eugene sandow who was definitely pre steroids era and arguably the best physique of his time , and the other is reg park after the 54 universe .. Now obviously , i cant say reg park was enhanced at this time , but considering these 2 were the genetic elite of their perspective era's there's too much drastic difference in there physiques to say steroids wasn't the difference maker.. Like I said that's just an educated guess but the pictures speak for them selves ..

A bit of info on turinabol from wikipedia, I believe I read somewhere the swimming team of Nazi Germany used it at Olympic games back then but it says here it was developed later which could be misinformation as a lot of what Nazi "contributed" with to our world has been revoked or wouldn't really be well known:
In the 1960s Jenapharm had fewer than 40 employees working on developing new products. This lack of dedicate resources translated in few original products. The first original product developed at Jenapharm was 4-chlorodehydromethyltestosterone, an anabolic steroid which was marketed under the name Oral Turinabol.[2] This product later became infamous for being the most often used anabolic steroid in doping East German athletes under a state-sponsored program.
Actually it appears people that called it out being nazi steroid have mixed timeline of when they controlled Germany, it is indeed the GDR swimming team which won 11/13 gold medals using turinabol.

Awesome info man !! Its definitely an interesting subject to read up on . I was reading about Charles Brown-Sequard recently who was a endocrinologist in the late 1880's who was experimenting with extracting fluid from various animal testes and injecting it for performance enhancing effects lol . hell even back to ancient Greece the Olympians were said to eat copious amounts of animal testes and using an opium potion to enhance performance . so most likely as far back as organized sport goes there were people trying to use something to get a competitive edge on the competition .

The German Democratic Republic (GDR) state-owned pharmaceutical company -- Jenapharm Pharmaceutical Company -- created Oral Turinabol in 1960 which became the staple PED for GDR/East German athletes for decades.

I'm pretty sure it was the Russians , what I read was that's the direct reason Ziegler started working with Ciba to create dianabol

Contrary to what you may read in bodybuilding folklore published on the Internet, John Zeigler had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the development of Dianabol. He merely had ACCESS to Dianabol and introduced it to American Olympic lifters.

Dr. John Ziegler Did NOT Invent Dianabol

I wrote about MLB's first injectable steroid user and first steroid-using Hall of Famer James Francis "Pud" Galvin and many of these other topics as part of a brief overview of the history steroids in sports...

The myth of Nazi steroids is another one that won't die... probably because it conveniently demonizes steroids i.e. "steroids must be evil because they were created by Nazis"

Stop Blaming the Nazis for Steroids and Start Thanking the Jews

Awesome read !! The part about Alvin Roy giving the 63 chargers cereal bowls full of dianabol during training camp was crazy , where's that astrix in the record books lol ! Funny thing a lot these football teams had baseball teams in the same city , and I'm sure some of those guys were getting there hands on them too ... All these pro leagues talk about pulling records from the books for all the recent doping scandals but its farse , they've gotta know how deep and far back all this stuff goes ?

That was a great read! I had no idea that so early on they had synthesized over a thousand steroids. That was a really in-depth article, thank you!
