Help getting good sleep

hey fellas,

I'm posting this in the supplement section because I'm hoping that maybe there's something that can help out a bit. I have trouble sleeping at night, and it's a combination of getting to sleep and also staying asleep. And the sleep I do get really isn't what you'd call good quality sleep anyway. I've struggled with this for quite a while now, having nightmares and not getting very much rest when it's time to heal and recharge. It's a bummer because that's when we grow, and when I'm putting in the hard work to get big but not getting much "grow time", it gets frustrating. I doubt I'll ever go back to normal, this started when I got home from deployment from Iraq in the Army and as far as VA doctors say there isn't some magical cure. They do offer all kinds of pills and weed, but I'm not interested in becoming a useless zombie. I've tried melatonin, and a few other natural supplements, none seem to work very well. I got one recently it's a powder and it's called ZMA Nightcap. It hasn't changed much about my sleep, it's mostly amino acids and it has 5 HPTA I think it's called? Anyway, if you guys have found something that knocks you out (in a healthy way lol) please share, I'm willing to try anything as long as it's not bad for me. Thanks in advance guys

There is like a billion of sleep aids at your local vitamin shop.
My friends all swear by melatonin. I'd probably start with that one if I needed some help.
I noticed that if I take my preworkout even if it is like 6 hours before I sleep I still have a little trouble.

I was introduced to something called Brain Paint by my chiropractor. I had issues with sleep and nightmares from numerous deployments. This works for many but isn't guaranteed. There are numerous sleep aids that are natural.

Thanks brother, I was indeed :) I'm going to take a look at that article and see if I can come up with something. Where were you deployed if you don't mind me asking, I guess what year is the more important part.
These were my 1st few with a regular unit
03-04 taji
06-06 tikrit

We weren't so far apart lol funny how stuff works out sometimes, I wonder if we ever went right by each other on the main roads. I was in Baghdad and fallujah and samarra in 05-06. "Lived" at Falcon but we were hardly ever there.

Always good to connect with a brother, thanks for your service. If I can ever help with anything let me know

I can relate. I take a cocktail of klonopin, GABA, and occasionally melatonin. A cpl days a week I use phenibut as well.

GABA, I just read about that in the link that franchise24 posted. It seems to be one of the more popular ones for sleep. I've also been prescribed kpins before and they work great, but I started to gain weight in all the wrong places and after a bunch of research it seems that klonopin was definitely responsible for the weight gain. It's a good spot treatment but nightly usage isn't real good for ya, and that's what ended up happening to me, I took one every night before bed.

Does melatonin work if you only use it once in a while or is it something you have to take every night and get it built up in your system?

It works even better if you only use it once in awhile because you don't get used to it. Melatonin can make me feel groggy the next morning sometimes. GABA is seriously good stuff though, I have crazy dreams on it and it feels like I get into a deeper sleep much faster. Try that GABA out, I like it a lot.

Kloni's I'll always be using, I don't ever want to come off of them. I got to a point to when I had to ask myself what was worse, not sleepin or poppin klonopins? I haven't noticed weight gain though, but I guess everyone reacts differently sometimes

Avoid your tv, ipad, phone or whatever 1 hour before bed. The blue lights in it trigger your brain to think it's time to be awake.

Melatonin is good, but as DD suggested your build a tolerance.

Also, I have a TREMENDOUS issue where I lay in bed and think for hours. Not even negative shit, just anything.... So, my doc prescribed xanax at it works great for me....

You can change the colors to a warmer spectrum on the iPad atleast

TBI related?
One of my VA docs gave me mirapex, gave me the best sleep I've had in a minute. Helps reset your circadian rhythms with your body getting ready for sleep when it's dark, and waking up when it's light.
Leave it to the new doctor to take away my scrip.

Yeah moderate TBI, big blast and knocked out for a few mins. I'll have to check that out

Start taking 600-2000mg theanine and 1200mg magnesium glycinate

If you can't sleep, wait you will. Nevermind. You're welcome. That's fucking gold. Don't take that information for granted. There's more where that came from.

Also could be high cortisol, throw in 10,000mg vitamin c buffered as well.

High cortisol can cause it??!! My cortisol has been through the roof because I did some prolonged exposure training at the VA.

When do you take the Theanine and Magnesium?
