Wife wants maybe to try trt

Do you pin or use gel? My wife hit early menopause at 31 and we're looking at HRT along with testosterone. Can only get Test undecanoate here or gel so want to know what to expect. There are also a few clinics that offer the under skin slow release pellets, but I have no clue about dosages. We're still having trouble finding someone willing to prescribe it for someone so young.
Sorry to hear that is happening to get so early. That's rough.I pin.Trt clinics and docs usually treat the symptoms. Womens hormones through blood test can be hard to track. Check out online clinics. Good luck.
Im on test C

I personally use Test P, and pin ED. I like it, and I like knowing that I can adjust quickly if I need to, in either direction. Pinning daily is easy these days, get yourself a peptide pen and some 3mL carts. Do NOT go for a pellet - they push those HARD at the medspas, and that’s how I started, but once they’re in, they’re in, and you have NO control over how they are absorbed in your body. It’s a $$ racket preying on women who desperately want to improve quality of life with respect to their hormones. It’s a very straightforward process to safely dilute a vial of T, if you can’t find it available in a 50mg/mL concentration.

is one of you talking about var, and one of you talking about test c?

either way you're also comparing competition doses to "wellness" doses. i'm planning to run 3mg test c/week, increase to 5mg if everything is fine, and eventually add in 2.5mg var/day and increase to 5mg if no issues. these are conservative doses to avoid any unwanted sides (see above). not trying to look like a stage competitor.

I use var, 2.5mg/day, and despite what another member has stated, it’s a FINE dose to start with and then go from there. It’s been GREAT for me. My normally dry skin now produces oil (I used to not need to shower hardly ever, now I’m a normal skin type that needs to wash my face). My Reynaud’s has largely subsided, and that made this past winter SO much nicer. My libido was pretty good on T alone, getting estrogen levels dialed in actually raised it quite a bit, and the var raised it more. Hubby can’t keep up, so, careful what you wish for there, gentlemen.

While the above is HRT for me (I also use estrogen and progesterone), I *am* training for a Wellness Competition later this year. I have no plans to go pro or anything but will enjoy a few competitions in the Masters categories as well as True Novice or whatever. Even at HRT/TRT doses I’m gaining plenty of lean mass (gained 9lbs lean mass, mostly in lower body, from Jan-June 2025). I lift 5-6 days a week with 3 leg days in there.

Back in 2024 I finished up my last T pellet before moving to injx. That last pellet coincided with a massive loss of fat as I finally got serious about leaning out. The loss of all the fat also seemed to accelerate perimenopause (fat holds estrogen, so, no surprise there), and also accelerated mild sides, none of which bother me or hubby. Switching to injx and getting E and P dialed in has seemed to have halted those mild sides - however, some of them tend to hit ladies as we age anyway. I may be aging strong, but I’m still aging, nothing will stop that :)

Best of luck to ya :)

Excellent write up! My wife and I are both 55. She was pushed into menopause early due to chemo treatment for breast cancer. She was also prescribed for 10 years of Tamoxifen at 20 mg per day. Two years ago we contacted a specialist in hormone therapy who believes womens health and balance is just as important as men. She has been on Test C now for 2 years. She is at 14mg per week, splitting her doses into twice a week. Just recently, we went of the oral Tamoxifen and switched to Masterone E that she injects at the same time as her test. We still get our bloodwork done a minimum now of every 4 months. Everything is fine although of course, for a women of her age, according to the standards, her test levels are higher than the schedule says. But at where they are, she feels absolutely great and blood work is good. At 55, our love life has never been better. We have also been training partners now together for two years. We have a great routine that we live.

Thank you so much for the write up, and thanks for the heads up about pellets. They sounded very interesting to me on paper to avoid the fluctuations of T that comes with other forms of administering it. If my wife hears she needs to inject herself daily she'd probably say "just let me wither away", weekly might be doable.

So you're saying var improved your state further than just T? I'd find it hilarious if I'm the one who can't keep up after she starts.

Yeah, it looks like we have no choice than to cough up the big dough and go to a private clinic that focuses on optimization, not just survival. T we can mange with grey stuff if need be, but bioidentical HRT not so much.

T gets me in to the gym and attacking life like an animal. Same attitude in the bedroom, BUT, I’d say var and estrogen did more for me wrt actual desire. I really have enjoyed the var and have not yet cycled OFF of it, just keeping an eye on bloodwork for now, which seems totally unaffected.

Having said that, because of the breast cancer, your wife will need to proceed with caution with systemic estrogen (vaginal cream is totally fine and I highly recommend it for keeping those tissues healthy and heading off UTI and other age related stuff). If she was pushed in to meno that means that she was likely on an estrogen blocker due to the nature of her cancer. There IS quite a bit of evidence that systemic estrogen is STILL beneficial and worth the risks, which seem to perhaps have been overblown…but that’s something you’ll want to take up with a Gyn doc if you can find one who’s up to date on meno stuff. If you can’t locally, get online to a Menopause Specialty provider like Midi, who takes insurance :)

Sorry, got my wires crossed with my response - I think it wasn’t you but maybe @969C1 whose wife had breast cancer.

Pellets were great, til they weren’t. And I really started to hate having to take a whole week off from the gym/sport because they were inserted in the glutes. The initial spike was HUGE, which is not great for a woman, not great at all. Spikes are to be avoided (which is why I do every day, although with Test Cyp you can do 2x/wk). Some women do fine on gel, too.

But again, for estrogen/progesterone go online with a provider like Midi. Defy also will do testosterone, I think, for women. It’ll be less $$ than a local medspa, and Midi takes insurance. That means if they order labs it’ll be billable to insurance as well. Some combination of that and DIY may be palatable.

I'd also have to agree about the pellets. I've heard some not great things about them. Dosing can get tricky. I know I definitely would not like the big surge of T when it's inserted then the taper down to nothing as it's wearing off. Also, with pellets you're just sort of stuck with what you've been given, with no option to adjust. Cream or injections are definitely going to be the way to go because you can start low and slow and work up to a good theraputic dose while watching what the labwork says. More ability to keep an eye on the sides you don't want and ease back if they start creeping up.

I dose 2x/wk even though my Endo said once a week, because I prefer a more steady state than rather than a big up and down each week. 2x/wk also keeps my acne a little more calm than when I was doing 1x/wk.
