Why count protein as calories?

Was this a typo?

Your later post "Carbohydrate metabolism and de novo lipogenesis in human obesity." says the opposite.

Carb intake above a certain amount = fat deposit growth. That's how the body works, no?

If you want to get technical I should have said to "any clinically significant degree".

Read the study, 500g of high GI carbs were taken in one sitting and only +/- 5g of fat was synthesized. I can only speak for myself but I'm not worried about 1/100 of a pound of fat being synthesized when I eat 500g of carbs in a sitting. I might be mistaken but I think that study also used a non-training population sample so it makes it even less of an affect for a demographic that trains since training improves insulin sensitivity, glycogen storage, etc etc.
