The Firearm thread...questions, advice, range reports welcome

I have a suggestion, go pay a professional trainer for a basic pistol class.

You will learn so much that it is difficult for me to describe in a post. It is worth a couple hundred bucks, please just trust me on that. You will wonder why you did not do it sooner.
Good advice rt here

Got an iwb from safari land for the s&w 40 and got the little 9mm mostly for my girl to carry around. Both shoot amazing. I’ve also built my ar15 through bear creek arsenal. Can build some really nice stuff for cheap there. I’ve put easily 1k rounds through it never even cleaned (I will eventually lol) and still shoots great.
I have the Ruger EC9s, not sure if that's what you have for your lady but I hear the LC9 is basically the same. Shoots great, I love it for a glove box or tackle box pistol.

Right now my carry is a Taurus snub .38, depending, sometimes the Ruger or my trusty 9 shot cheap but effective Heritage revolver.

I have a 1964 Ruger 10/22 that I tricked with a decent scope and upgraded 25 rd mag. Just for some good plinking fun.

For deer and wild boar I have a field/tactical 12g and for archery season I've been using a recurve. Fun stuff, now I'm ready to go blow some shit up.

This.

I’ve taken a few Kyle Defoor classes and they’re life changing.

This is really welcome information. I’m looking around now to see who I might take a class from

So you or someone help me understand what specific they teach you.

Do they teach how to get proper sight picture, arm positioning in relation to sight picture, and how to handle recoil? I only want to get more accurate, there's multiple things that factor in and I believe a lot of practice will eventually be what teaches me the most. I'm open to a class, but $170 a pop I'm not sure if that will be worth it. I really learn by repetition, if I get the basics down, wouldn't practice via live shooting on target paper be what really is needed?

You need to drill with dry firing as well.

Kyles classes are around $700 I think for a 2 day class. They cover everything from fundamentals, accuracy, shooting under stress, multiple targets etc.

Yea same pistol lol mines the EC9s as well. Either keep in the glove box or my lady will keep it in her purse

Here’s what I built on bear creek arsenal, I think everything was like 700$.
The red dot is accurate as fuck and is also from bear creek arsenal.

I'll say this. I bought a performance center SW 9mm and Glock 19 at the same time. Been shooting only the SW the first few times out. Pulled out the Glock today and hate it. The trigger is much harder and has to travel much further before it shoots.

Per advice from another forum, I'm going to stick to one gun while training. I'll play with the Glock after I get the basics ingrained. But I'm regretting buying the Glock.
I’m the same way. I really do not like my glock at all. It doesn’t fit in my hand and feels poorly built.

I have a canik mete and It’s my absolute favorite.

Got my order from Canoe Club recently, TA was pretty quick and around 7 days. Will be using these hopefully this weekend.

I got to be careful or I'll stockpile way too much. Already around 1,600 bullets in storage, don't know if that's a lot or not compared to how some buy ammo. Lol.
My neighbor back at my parents house has over 25k rounds. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was closer to 50k.

Guy is an absolute freak with his guns. He has a room in his basement with a vault door that is the size of a garage filled to the brim with shit. It’s so fun to go in there and look at his collection. He says he buys a few boxes of ammo every paycheck and has been doing it for years

It will be totally worth it.

There is too much to cover in a post here, but due to the fact that you are relatively new, NOW is the best time to take the class, before you develop a lot of bad habits that are more difficult to train out. And doing it on your own, you will develop a lot of bad habits.

You don't need some whiz bang ex-Navy seal tactical class. Just go take a basic pistol class with live fire from a certified instructor.

This will come with an experienced eye who looks at your grip, stance, and so on, and makes small changes that will benefit you as you continue learning to improve.

I have taken, cumulatively, weeks of classes. Every once in a while, every few years, I go take a very basic class, and I learn something new every time, even though I am probably what would be described as more "advanced."

Spend a couple hundred bucks.

It is so worth it. This is not even really a question.

Just go in without a chip on your shoulder, open eyes, open ears, open mind, and soak up what you can.

Guns have become a big love of mine within the past couple of years. When I put my gun on my waist to leave the house it’s like someone putting on their Rolex watch and being proud of it. My guns are like me wearing my watch!

Or a shoe collector, you know how a shoe collector has different shoes for different days? Well, gun nuts often have different guns for different days. You have your “just walking to the mailbox gun”, your truck gun, your “massive liberal mowdown guns”, your cheap handgun you don’t mind getting scratched up or dropped or broken from smashing someone’s head in with it (high point pistols). Guns are just fantastic!
I read and only now I realized what a good comparison with watches or collectible shoes. Very accurate comparison.

I’m looking to buy my son a 1911 for Xmas, I’m considering a Springfield Garrison .45 in stainless, the supply is getting low so I may order it up soon and have it transferred to an FFL here

I like it. I have a sig 1911 STX. Has a nice look to it.

Awesome! Yea I like the classic look of the 1911’s myself. I can’t believe how many Browning 1911 guns come in .380 now! It’s 45acp or bust if I’m rocking a 1911
