Sleep ...

My wife has said for years I stop breathing in my sleep .My dad had it. May sister does. I snore like a mother fucker. I sometimes choke and wake up .

I got a resmed 10 with the autosense . Hoping it automatically does the deal?

Hardest part will be getting used to it. I am 2 weeks into it and it takes me a good hour after I put on the mask to actually fall asleep. I feel like I just am not getting enough air. Hopefully you will have a better experience. I currently have the resmed 9 autosense.

If you are on face book, look up sleep apnea support group. If you have questions, I'm pretty sure someone else has already asked. Very helpful!

Thanks man. Iam
Am I thinking right that the autosense will auto adjust? I understand that I can set the min and Max, but does it function like that?

You are correct. It supposed to start off at a low setting and adjust on its own to what it thinks you need but, it does that everytime. My dr currently has me on that setting for a month. Once he evaluates it, I am assuming he will give me a number for it to be set on. I wish I could start at a higher setting now. You are probably like me currently. When you put on your mask you probably don't feel like you are getting enough air. If you are then man I'm happy for you. I'm currently fighting to get used to it.

Hope you get it sorted out man. Mine is delivered tomorrow

Yea, very possible from muscle mass. Also, during episodes of not breathing the tongue will fall back into the throat and then when you begin breathing again it causes it stimulates tongue movement, and the tongue is a muscle so it grows larger. This creates less space between your tongue and the roof of your mouth and breathing becomes more difficult. A lot of ppl don't know this stuff. So yea, losing weight can help to some degree but it's not usually 100% corrective for ppl with sleep apnea already, can help though

I have been on the machine for two weeks now. I started with the nasal pillows because it was the simplest thing for your face, but being a mouth breather I just couldn't get used to it. 3 days later I went to the airfit 20 mask. I could breath better but, I am a side sleeper and each time I attempted to side sleep the mask would move a little and air would leak. At this point I am struggling. I still feel like I am suffocating like I am just not getting enough air. I lie in bed a good hour trying to practice breathing with the mask on and during that time anxiety builds and the heart starts to flutter. I am good for about 3 hours and then I wake up and am like fuck this, take it off an fall right to sleep. I know I have to get this thing figured out and wear it 100%. Strangely, other than the apnea, I don't get the drowsy, can't survive the day feeling that others claim they have. I can still go to bed as normal. Wake up, have my caffeine and I am good for the day. Others I talk to say they couldn't imagine life with out the machine and have been on it for years. It almost sounds like they have an addiction to it. I guess I just don't fully understand it yet, because I have not experienced that which is probably down the road if I were to say fuck the mask today. I wish I could be one of the ones that throw it on and all is fine but, its not that way at all.
My doc wants me to do a sleep study. Everything you just mentioned is why I am hesitant to do it. I'm already a borderline insomniac, I couldn't imagine falling asleep with all that stuff on.

Man, it has been tough. Life was so much easier before. Now, I don't even look forward to going to bed, but I do realize its not a game to play around with. I need to get accustomed to using it. Everyone that is used to it, swear by it. If you ask some that have been on it for years, there opinion is they couldn't imagine life without it. Almost, to the point where it sounds like a drug addiction. Im early in the game so , to rip it off, I actually feel better. I sleep. Wake up. Have my caffeine, go to work, hit the gym and life is business as usual. I guess I am at the point where I caught it early and I don't get the exhausting, can hardly stay awake effects that others with sleep apnea complain about. I know that if I don't wear the thing, all those issues will be down the road for me too. Apparently I stop breathing 40 x an hour. Scary shit to play with. So, even though the machine sucks now! I have to become best friends with it asap! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you take any sleep sups to help? 5htp? Melatonin? Anything ?
I'm lucky, I'll fall asleep in a bed of nails.

Yes it was. If I sat down for a few minutes for any reason I would start to fall asleep. I couldn’t sit down at work, meetings/training/etc I had to stand for all of it or I’d pass out. Several times while driving it’s happened and I’ve had to pull over to wake up. I’d wake up more tired and exhausted then before I went to bed.

Your symptoms are the hallmark of sleep apnea Doc D. Take a look at your sleep study and you'll note an almost complete absence of REM cycles!

No REM = no sleep !

Drug Pair Shows Promise For Treating Sleep Apnea

For decades, scientists have searched in vain for drugs to defeat obstructive sleep apnea, the risky and increasingly prevalent condition in which a person's upper airway repeatedly collapses during sleep, causing them to briefly stop breathing dozens or hundreds of times each night.

Now, a new drug combination has reawakened hopes of treating sleep apnea with medication instead of the cumbersome breathing machines that saddle sufferers with a mask and headgear at night.

The pills, atomoxetine and oxybutynin, have long been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating unrelated conditions.

But when a team led by researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston gave them before bedtime to 20 patients, their number of hourly airway obstructions fell dramatically, from a median of 28.5 to a median of 7.5.

"That's actually unbelievably exciting," says Sigrid Veasey, a physician-researcher who studies sleep at the University of Pennsylvania who was not involved with the study.

Thanks man .

I've watch some YouTube stuff, how to get into the clinical settings, etc... Any tips?

Other than keeping your equipment clean (i use a mouthwash to clean the tube, and alcohol free wipes to clean my mask), i dont really have anything further to add unfortunately. I did however adjust mine to a stronger flow - 10 wasn't cutting it for me. I experienced the same symptoms as the member RELENTLESS above, i couldn't breathe. So i manually adjusted it to where i feel much better - 16.

Upload your graphs to sleepy head, and look at how the pressure went all night. If you noticed your body kept needing at least 6 or 8 set the min there.. If you noticed It never needed more than 12 set the max to 13 or so

Does the machine store the info via a SD card?
