Sinus headache/Cough headache - Exercises to do?

Hi, I have developed a chronic condition and going to be months before I can get a CT scan unless I pay privately. I get a sharp head pain when I over exert and more so when bending over or lying down so benches are out, leg press is out, squats are out (going down controlled is ok but pushing back up kills me). All my usual exercises for back and arms are OK to do besides bent over rows. Chest is the big issue as all I can do is cable crossovers and machine flies for chest and leg extensions for legs. I tried to power through dumbbell presses today but impossible, the pain is like a 10/10 and sharp pain, even my codeine that I am on for another condition does nothing for the pain. Any suggestions for less well know exercises for legs and chest?

So there are those bench press machines where you are in the seated position- that might help. What about incline bench on a very steep setting? Seated dip machine does pretty good on the chest, especially if you lean forward.

Legs is tougher… Can you use a stair step machine? If it hurts pushing up from a squat, we are talking body weight exercises.

I hope you get the scan soon!

What is your iron, ferritin, cbc? bp?

I would be careful. I’m not a doctor but know from personal experience upper cervical injuries can manifest in symptoms affecting the head and face. Just try to take it easy until you get a diagnosis

Is the CT scan that expensive privately? Id imagine even so it would be a priority if the pain is excruciating. You gotta face the fact at some point that this is an obstacle and it will lead to some loss of muscle and you gotta prioritize fixing it rather than training through it.

Its inflamed sinuses so when in certain positions or doing exercises that cause the blood to rush to the head it puts pressure on the inflammation causing the pain, the pain has since gone from excruciating to an annoyance and according to my research its gong to take months to heal. There were no red flags and the specialist I paid to see wasn't overly concerned. If there were red flags I would have paid.

Flys are actually a solid choice since they let you really isolate the chest and take the delts/tris out of the equation if they dominate. Lateral head of quads will lack some stimulation without squat pattern but it’s not that serious. Overall you still have a decent exercise for growing muscles so don’t worry that much. I’d suggest trying:

For chest:
1. Low to high cable fly (upper chest)
2. Pec deck
3. Machine or cable pullover (low chest+lats)
Legs:
1. Leg extensions
2. Leg curls
3. Addiction machine
4. Abduction machine

Hope this works well for you, and wish you good health man!

might be a good time to increase cardio outdoors until you figure it out

(not sure if being outdoors adds much, but it does for me)
