Quitting meat ?

its much more than a dietary choice...
ok then why come in this thread?

anyways, lets all just live without growing and evolving to better ways of life and this earth...
i mean im a nut job because i think killing animals with no need in this day and age is wrong right? ( and there is no need other than wanting to and being used to it along with being desensitized to respect for life and our impact on them)
whats we did 100 or 200 or 300yrs ago i would think would tell you things could change in terms of needs and perception and awareness , but im just a nut job for respecting all life ( even plants but i need draw a line out of need and to live) yours is at meat, mine is at plants...
Hey brother, i aint calling you a nut job. Never did. I did at least 3x now say its a dietary choice. Period.
But i smell bs a mile wide when the animal sympathy card comes out. Thats really what it comes down too.
Not healthy
Not better
Just a sympathy for animals ( food )
I dont get it.
But we can get past that
I was hoping to learn exactly how you guys do it. But this is the inevitable when verbally sparring on this topic isnt it?

Yea I get the nitro fusion from lucky Vitamin also get my hemp protein there. Then I get my soy protein from nutrabio.
That cost me like $40 for 5 lbs.
I use one scoop of each blended with a cup of oats, a banana, and 2-3 tbsp of peanut butter and almond milk,
Shit taste amazing blended together and gives me about ;
800-900 cals
75g protein
80g carbs
With only about 3g saturated fat. :)

that sounds awesome !
ohh and thanks for tip, i used them once along time ago for something.

i pretty much make same smoothy but i add almond butter a banana a hand full of frozen berries and 2-3oz of fresh olive oil , YUMMMM! my batch comes in at about 1200-1500cals but i have it in 2 servings hrs apart.

i agree it is.
and i feel the same about smelling bs when i hear "we need it" or "thats how it is" or "thats what nature is" or "god put them here for us to eat" (my grandmas fav lol) because to me that is old thinking and belief along with mental programing from multiple things like religion, upbringing, culture and to me it is also something i look at as a BS excuse .
i think you can be healthy eating meat and not eating meat. but for meat eaters for it to be low-med on meat and high in veggies and fiber. ( i am pretty sure you wont argue that part but i could be wrong)
i do think if you eat right on a veg diet you can be healthier than most meat eaters but i do agree many non-meat eaters are NOT healthy, but thats due to a crappy over all diet and that can go for both meat eaters and non-meat eaters.

i see animals as more than just food, you dont so this is a very verbally sparing topic.
i see it as more than just a dietary choice and you dont because since you dont think like i do on the animal part of it ofcourse you wont grasp it as i do ( im not saying your not capable of it or saying it as some sort of an attack, im just saying our views differ too much obviously to fully understand eachother.)

Have you ever seen the movie Food, inc.? Check it out. There's a gray area between the black and white of hunter and prey.

The idea of humans being the apex predator is an antiquated statement. We don't live in caves and hunt for sustenance like our ancestors.

I'm an avid hunter and fisherman myself but I personally detest the commercialized meat industry... also an avid meat eater. I eat my meat with a side of meat. I try to buy local responsibly raised meats to avoid supporting the commercial meat industry.

But with that said, I really respect those that don't support the meat industry at all by choosing alternative diets and not supporting businesses that treat animals as commodities. The last part is what makes it more than a dietary choice, sort of political I suppose. With what we know about nutrition now, vegetarian diets are healthy and sustainable and available to the majority of the population... sounds kind of enticing to me really... don't you agree to a certain extent? But alas, I'm going to heat up my lunch which consists of steak because I like the taste :)

I'm not trying to argue with you either by the way... engaging in this conversation is healthy. Discussing topics with people that do nothing but agree with you makes for a boring and uninformative conversation.

amen!
dang hungry now
im going to go make a vegi Indian butter chicken dish (coconut cream based/margarine) with a chicken substitute (think bean beef jerky) on rice and veggies.

now someone will ask "well why would you eat something thats like meat?"
well because from upbringing its what iv learned dishes to cook and how culture revolves around many dishes, so for some dishes i like that evolved from meat based i transitioned to still have something similar . but i have no issue making dished with no "meat substitute" its a culture thing and i like to cook alot of Thai and Indian food.

I'm trying to think of this vegetarian restaurant chain I read about... Anyways someone told me all about it and they said all the dishes were a play on some kind of meat dish. Like fish and chips or spaghetti and meatballs. They said it was one of the few restaurants you could go to and be totally cool ordering anything off the menu because you were so interested in knowing what it tasted like and how they can make it taste realistic. He said some of the dishes you would have never known were meatless but you felt much better after eating a big meal of the food.

i have brought alot of friends to places like this and go myself at times, they are usually blown away with how good the food tastes and also how some they would not even know where vegetarian! now i have prob about 10 friends (one male) that eat it that otherwise may not have ever tried it. some where soo weirded out by it it took some convincing to give it a try and i dont have any that regret it to this day.

i LOVE the asian thai and indian restaurants. specially since Buddhism and Hindu dont eat meat it leaves the places bothering to fill in veg options on menu even if it is not a full veggie restaurant.
i go to a few full veggie places in my city though and love them, but i mostly cook, even for my fiancee which has been meat free for over a year now. not forced, just learned from me and ate with me and fell in love with idea and the foods along with the "political views"
not once did i ever say dont eat meat. for some it just happens.
i remember laughing at a girl that didnt eat meat while i was cooking up some hot dogs willed with body parts... years later im the one that understands what she meant...

I'm vegan and have been for about a six month stint this time. I kind of always experiment with my diet to figure out what works best. I got into being vegan when my father was diagnosed with cancer and I did the diet to support him doing it. That was 5 years ago and since then I am a vegetarian most of the time and a vegan about half the time. I do it because it makes me feel great. I'll still eat meat every several month at family celebrations mainly just to be respectful to my family but never on my own. For my body dairy is way worse than meat.

All that being said I never was a huge meat eater. As a vegan i do have to take protein supplements. This recent time when I went vegan I gave up whey protein mainly. I was eating a lot of that. I lost a little size, not much though. Didn't lose any strength and got a little leaner without cutting calories at all.

I believe that everyones body is different and some people tolerate meat and/or dairy really well and some tolerate plant foods well. I've seen people that cant handle a vegetarian diet and feel really shitty while on it and then like myself I feel pretty crappy if i eat animal products all the time.

Also the stereotype of vegans or vegetarians being really weak and skinny doesn't take into account vegan athletes or people that work out. If you take an average person that never works out and feed them the SAD they'll probably just be chubby and weak which isnt any better. If you work out and get enough protein from plant or animal sources you can gain or retain muscle and if you are deficient in plant or animal protein you'll lose muscle.

Im looking for a carb conscious plant based protein powder for cutting...
I have to be wary of saturated fats in my diet now as well. Ive been on almond milk for sometime now. Is there advantages to rice, soy, coconut, cashew etc.? or blends?

Any recommendations whats the best way to go about it?

If you want to be vegan that's your choice. But thinking your above others because you don't take the life of other creatures that's total Bullshit with a capital B. I raise or harvest a large portion of mine and my families food so I'm very familiar with taking the life of other creatures, I personally don't take any pleasure in killing animals I've raised. I also don't sport hunt. You say eating meat is a choice...for some it might be, but their is no way in hell I could feed my family on vegetables just ain't going to happen.

if you took pleasure in killing them then it would likely be a serious mental disorder going on... i never said people take pleasure in the idea, just that many are desensitized to it and make excuses and thats not much better imo.
and there are alot of families that live from plants and it would likely be cheaper if you really looked into it, but if you cant then do what you gotta do man. we all gotta live. but dont fool yourself thinking there isnt another way if you really wanted to and the only way is the way you are used to..

ps, i LOVE dragon ball! i stared the show all over again from the first a few months ago, on epi 102 right now lol @Kakarot
I didn't mean any disrespect. I just hear too much vegan preaching from an in law who does it mostly for attention. If that's how you want to live I can respect that. The fact that you make gains on it tells me you know what your doing so keep it up. Just out of curiosity what's you grocery bill look like for a week when you bulk?
