Possible to experience depression and/or anhedonia from peptides?

Or more specifically, has anyone on this forum experienced those symptoms?

Specifically from melanotan 1 or 2 use?

Apparently anhedonia is mediated through one of the receptors it targets.

Some case reports on reddit, slightly concerning.

Thoughts/experiences/insights?
 
BPC definitely has many anecdotal reports on anhedonia as mentioned previously.

MT-1 would be somewhat unlikely, but far from impossible. Afamelanotide (MT-1) is a universal agonist of melanocortin receptors, but does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier. It does requires higher doses for efficacy, but overall seems like the better and more studied option. Doesn't appear that this is a known side effect of commercial / pharma Afamelanotide either... but that doesn't mean it couldn't be.

MT-2, on the other hand (like other cyclized peptides), crosses the blood-brain barrier far more readily and is also a universal agonist of melanocortin receptors. So many of the side effects (including sexual side effects) are likely the result of this (and many of the risks both short and long term are not fully known).

I choose to stick with MT-1, personally, but the longer half life / faster results with MT-2 can certainly be enticing.
 
*I don't think I've tried bpc while on cycle yet though, which might be pertinent to the discussion in the aas circles as anabolics have a profound impact on elevating neurotransmitters, especially glutamate/dopamine neurotransmission. Bpc might have less anhedonic effects while on cycle and it might even be a good "nootropic" add-on, lowering the "on" feeling and preventing hyper excitability and it's negative outcomes on brain physiology and mental health. This is just speculation, but an interesting experiment non the less.

Interesting discussion going on here.

I have never noticed depression due to bpc or I have never linked it to bpc use but like you said when I have used bpc, I have been off any AAS.

In general when I'm off AAS my sense of well being is diminished and I can certainly get depressed more easily.

The times I have used BPC are just when I have had serious injuries. Because I am not able to train like I would otherwise, I didn't bother using AAS as I felt it was a waste until I healed enough to where I could train close to normal.

So yeah, I also have never used BPC while on AAS. So you going to run this experiment? :D

Before seeing this thread, I had never heard of BPC causing depression.

How long does it take you to recover after discontinuation of the peptide?

Read a case on reddit where a dude went through several anti depressants and eventually ECT to recover.

I'm 9 days out from stopping mt2 and still hanging.

Idk, maybe, I'd need to study it's kinetics a bit more, which is at the same time a pita, as it's too understudied. I'm mentally nowhere near ready to touch aas though, so don't hold your breath : )

I'm not sure exactly when my mood started improving, but after going through this discussion thread, I realized that BPC-157 might be the cause of my mood swings. I always assigned my mood to my injury and me not able to train. However, after reading about other people experiencing mood swings while taking BPC-157, it seems likely that it could be the culprit.
Idk about a week or maybe even less since mood got better, and I wasn't on any aas cycle back then.

Oh, yes I was using TB-500 with BPC-157, idk If that affected my mood even more.

Referencing my earlier post, this does make some sense. Both PT-141 and MT2 readily cross the Blood Brain Barrier and could very easily result in the effects noted, particularly since PT-141 (Bremelanotide) was developed from MT2 specifically targeting the sexual effects of MT2.

Given the (lack of) approval status of MT2, one of your better sources of information regarding MT2/PT-141 might be the side effect reports on the pharmaceutical form of Bremelanotide (PT-141) since the mechanism of action is very similar, rather than relying solely upon andecotal reports (which admittedly often times do have merit). Mayo clinic has a rather extensive list of sides, for example:
 
This is very interesting. I was a m2 user for 10 years (would only use May-Aug) and it worked very well with minimum sides.

Last year I bought a new batch (same supplier) and a few weeks in started having the following issues:
- bad anxiety
- heart racing
- feeling of fight or flight (adrenaline feel) for no reason (very uncomfy)
- feeling of heart beating hard
- dizziness

So I stopped taking it. These sides persisted for about 3-4 weeks and scared me enough to see a doc and get my heart checked (Was all fine). Eventually around 4 weeks after stopping, these feelings went away.

Then a month ago, decided to maybe try m1 and took literally 2 pins and had the same feeling (I am pretty sure they sent me m2 labelled as m1). I had awful anxiety for like 2-3 weeks then it went away.

I read in another thread here about people going hypo as well...
 
This is why I try not to fuck with research chemicals anymore, so many unknowns. I’ve seen reports of depression sides from a number of peptides over the years; Cjc1295, mod grf 1-29, BPC157, MotsC, and I’m sure others I’m forgetting. Hope you get better op.
 
I theorize at this point it may be something to do with an immune or inflammatory response.

I have strong reactions to many chemicals and mt2 was basically no exception.

But I developed this gradually after years of being less active, less healthy, diet deterioration etc.

One that scared the crap out of me was botox. I've used this for years no problem. Last time I got dizzy and other weird stuff, effects on my eyes.

Turns out there's an entire community that's got messed up from botox.

It may be a hyper-sensitive response but who knows?

Some users actually developed botulism.

I'd like to see if I can reduce my inflammation response, I've totally revamped my entire diet to be anti-oxidant centric.

I'd like to see if chemical tolerance returns cause not using mt2 and other stuff can kind of suck.

But then the side effects of poor tolerance make me cautious about ever trying things like mt2 and botox again as well.
