Ive trained to be really symetrical...to catch the lagging side up simply do extra reps for that side and make sure your doing proper form..try doing individual sides alone with those extra reps so the bigger side isnt helping out(one arm press, curl, etc) Do 15 on the lagging side and 10 on your bigger side or whatever your rep range may be just increase the other...peace

it is cause you one side of your body is more dominant than the other, this is common even in eyesight , the worse thing you could do is do more reps on one side this will cause a completely different shape to that muscle group ! the muscle was trained differently in everyday task over years of common movements ( opening doors / picking stuff up / writing / even sometimes how much sports you played and what side controlled the ball) concentrate on even movement workouts and try using opposite sides of body for daily tasks , there is no quick fix to this.

My husbands left quad-which is his weaker leg- is almost 2 inches bigger then his right...he attributes it to driving stick his whole life.

Wrong...i am proof along with many others, now one side being dominant, True...if the right side is bigger, its also stronger, and will take away from your left and what your trying to accomplish..the daily tasks can def work in your favor as well..ive also put weights away with the less dominant side

what part do you disagree with then

Lol it just pisses me off it seems like nobody else notices the shape difference but me! :o

also from my experience in laggin bodypats... the worst thing you can do is prform more of an exercise on the laggin bodypart cordination has a lot to do with symetry but if you concistantly lift with strict form the laggin bodypart will soon catch up. doing more reps may not cause hypertrophy but may even make the situation worse. proforming different reps or weight with your laggin arm is not a realistic way to correct the problem.... in theory it sounds like it should work. In our exercise phys class we had a heated debate over just this topic

everyone has this problem bro, it annoys the hell outta me too.....one side is bigger, one side is stronger blah blah blah.....like great one said, its all about dominance. ex- one side might be bigger or stronger at pushing or pulling than the other....its obvious to me but not other people. Id stay away from trying to work the muscle more independantly than the other because then youll really look off balance

Not independantly, just extra reps...for example if your doing reps of 10 for dumbell curls do a couple extra reps on that side, im saying this from MY experience...MY left arm used to be ridiculously smaller/weaker than my right, i hit it weekly with some extra reps and took turns putting weights away rotating arms and TADAAA both arms symetrical and strength equivalent

i could see this on a smaller muscle group but not on say legs or back

My left arm is a 1/2 inch larger, but I am right handed. Now here is the odd thing, I am stronger in my right arm, or it may just be that I am right handed and have more coordination than I do with my left arm.

Usually, one side of your body is more adapt to pulling, and in return, the other half is stronger in pushing. 9/10 times your dom hand is more powerful in pulling and curling motion while your other hand can push much more. Your body might not be asthetically balanced, but it balances itself out in other ways.
To fix this, go away from using barbells or anything that both arms are used to push the same resistance. Go with dumbells and one arm exercises as your body and mind can focus on each arm independantly
