Not Sleeping straight through the night...affecting muscle growth?

Its always preached that we should get around 8 hours of sleep a night or so to give our bodies the proper time to heal. I know I'm not the only one that wakes up in the middle of the night each night at least once, maybe twice. (Especially with night sweats when cycling tren)
It is not very often at all that I have a night where I just sleep straight through till the morning.

For example, let's say I go to bed 12 AM and my alarm is set for 8 AM. I randomly wake up briefly at 3 AM, and try to go back to sleep which may take 10-15 minutes. Then I wake up again at 5 or 6 AM usually to pee and then try to get back to sleep. Does this interrupted sleep GREATLY affect muscle growth or start to negate the analbolic process.
I am still ultimately getting close to 8 hours total, but there's that aspect of interrupted sleep. Anyone know for a fact if it affects the rest your muscles get? @Dr JIM you there?

This is a good thread. I'm curious about the same.

I would say it's unlikely to cause much of an issue, based on the scenario you're describing.

You're most likely waking up in between REM cycles when you're sleeping more lightly. The more important question is whether you're getting good REM cycles. Obstructive sleep apnea, for instance, is going to constantly inhibit your ability to achieve REM sleep. Anyone with higher muscle mass and/or body fat is going to be at much higher risk for this - it's very common.

Waking up to pee in the middle of the night? Not a big deal unless you were already tossing and turning all night.

Sleep apnea is real and can constantly wake you up. I had it before I went in for the surgery to have my uvula, tonsils and pharynx opened up and my soft palate was trimmed back. The surgery was a UPPP / UP3 / Uvulapalatopharyngoplasty and I opted to do it so I wouldn't have to rely on a shitty CPAP machine that was terrible to use.

My snoring is now almost non existant and my wife can actually sleep lol

It's a super serious thing that not a lot of people even realize they have or know about. Higher risk of heart attack, stroke, clotting, higher RBC, strain on your heart and other organs and people die of "natural causes" even at young ages where it's actually most times sleep apnea.

I went for multiple sleep studies and was waking up 17 times an hour never entering REM. If you have it you may not even remember waking up most of times.

Quite often your brain will wake your body up temporarily because it's not getting enough oxygen. There may be an actual blockage from your throat/sinus area or your tongue collapsing against the back of your throat.

If you notice yourself constantly waking up in the middle of the night you may want to consider getting checked. It's saved lives.

I am the same way. As stated above, the most important factor is Rem cycles. If I take a quick nap for 20 mins and wake up before I enter a REM cycle I feel ok... same with sleeping a full 1 1/2 - 2 hours completing a cycle. If I nap/sleep for an hour and interrupt a REM cycle I feel like shit. Best way I can explain it haha but it's normal to wake up and roll around in bed (or get up to eat or piss) between REM cycles.

Well if the anabolic process with muscle growth builds while you sleep..I was wondering in comparison between sleeping straight or waking up 2 or 3 times for 5 min cause of whatever reasons...discomfort, sweats, to take a piss, drink some water/(make shake lol) etc.
if one would think between the two there would be any conclusive difference in being debilitating or maximum muscle growth?
Especially if per say this is every night which over a month or two would maybe make a definite difference? (Melatonin I hear works great sometimes for straight sleep)

I never sleep straight through the night, usually wake up once or twice. Sometimes more after a couple days of too much sodium. For me to get 8 hours I'll need to be in bed 9 1/2 to 10 hours according to my Fitbit. I can only get that on weekends, I get less during the work week.
