joe shmoe said:FTW...i've been practicing my tree climbing skills. i'll be armed with a Marlin 45-70 and either a ruger vaquero in 45 colt with hot handloads, or just my kimber 45. i'll be in the wilderness alone this time around, so i figure i better go as prepared as possible. last time my buddy was with me, and armed as well. 2 against 1 is better than Joe vs the Grizzly
.
thanks for all the advice gentlemen.
have a nice day
first off i want to say hello to all cause its been a long time since i been around.now thats out of the way.
joe, you say your going into griz. country?you have got plenty of knife advise, but sounds like you need griz advise!leave the .45 auto at home!shooting a large bear with that is about like shootin a crack head with a bb gun.youll just piss him off real bad,and those things have bad additudes anyway. .45 colt is a better option, but id opt for 44mag or 454 with heavy soft pionts.colt will be just fine in a pinch as long as you arent you hp bullets.remember that a bears vitals are further back in the chest cavity than say, a whitetails or elk,so this means on a chest shot youll have to have some serious penetration.45-70 is on the other hand is great medicine for bear at close range.youll more than likely not encounter this problem, but its good to know if you are unluckly enough to.also if you do clim a tree (i wouldnt) but if you do make sure it small enough that he cant climb it,but big enough he cant push it over!
btw your right about kimber they are sweet 1911's also para's are good, and a little cheaper.i love colts though just cant find them anymore.piss on sig over rated and over priced!
hope that helps you.have fun and for Gods sake be careful!
sorry so long
