MP's Meet Training Log 3rd Edition

5/13
paused bench working sets 5x335, 6x2 355
dumbbell bench 20x100
tricep pushdowns 20x90

All reps were paused and a few of them were struggles although I never thought I wasn't going to lock one out. Ready to switch to Bulgarian at the end of next week and start hitting the daily heavy singles. Haven't been overly pleased with the way the recent doubles and triples work has gone.

Fuckin monster. Wish i could hit 335 for even 1! Keep up the good work bud.

At your weight, whats the number you think you need to hit to contend?

387 bench and 567 deadlift are 20th in the current national rankings for the past 12 months in the masters 198 class. Looking forward to later in the year when I switch to Masters 50 and my meet numbers from last year if duplicated would put me in the top 5 in both categories.

5/14
snatch grip block pulls worked up to 5x375, 2x5 400, 2x5 425
pull ups- dead hang 4x10

I struggled mightily on the snatch grip block pulls. For whatever reason I don't do very well on block pulls of any variety. I think it is because my strength is speed off the floor and I can't generate the same speed on block pulls.

paused bench 5x165, 4x215, 2x265, 1x315, 1x365, 0x405, 2x2 340
tate presses 3x10 50

High Frequency Bulgarian method benching starts Sunday and will run right into meet week. Tested bench today. 405 wasn't very well thought out and wasn't a great attempt. I will leave it at that. I will be smarter going forward. 4 weeks out tomorrow.

Lookin strong brotha. How close were you on 405? Thats a big press!

Also...pardon my ignorance, bu what are "ghr's"?

Also...do the tate presses work well for you? Ive seen them done on videos but ive never really had the chabce to speak with anyone who does them personally.

Hey MP looks like your training is going well, except for some nagging injurys. I can deff relate to that, spending most our lives in the gym pressing and pulling heavy weights has its down side for sure. Im now looking into PRP. Dont know if youve heard of this but it is very interesting and pretty affordable as well. Downside is that its not covered by insurance as its still considered under research. I will try to paste the link here but no guarantees cause i really suck at this stuff.

Almost into the 4 plate club! 40lbs is a huge jump on bench, unless you absolutely smoked 365, even then it's a big jump.

I'd suggest waiting 2 weeks, go 315x1, 345x1, 370x1, try 390x1 and see how that feels.

About midway up. Disappointed I couldn't get it as I have been there plus some during the past couple of meet training cycles.

GHR's= Glute Ham Raises. I feel them strongly in my hamstrings but I'm not convinced they have a lot of carryover to my deadlift. I bought the machine so I will continue to do them!

My elbows won't tolerate any kind of tricep extensions and I can do the tate presses relatively pain free so that is why you see them quite a bit in my log.

I've hit 411 in training and over 400 in a meet. I run the same loading scheme all the time using the Bulgarian method but since I'm just starting back with that loading a little differently may have been wise.

The real issue is just what you said. Unless 365 was smoked I shouldn't have tried 405. I know by how fast 365 moves real close to where I'm at that day and should have probably backed off to 395 which would have gone. But I had 405 in mind when I started the workout and wouldn't drop down. Not very smart.

My pleasure my friend, im looking into this cause we actually have a clinic that performs this procedure here and a buddy of mine took his wife there for shoulder issues and shes had great reduction in pain. Also some lady that had really bad knees and could hardly walk up stairs, can now run up them. So yeah , im deff interested.

Work obligations and a minor injury have slowed my posting down. Worked up to a 395 paused bench Sunday but came out of it with my bicep tendon not quite right which will keep me from benching again until Sunday.

I have been training every day. Nothing really of note. Heavy DL session coming on Saturday and will see how benching goes Sunday and then make a decision whether to compete in 3 weeks or pull up and point to something later this summer.

That is one advantage to running virtually nothing into this meet. I don't feel compelled to do the meet if training and injuries don't justify it where if I was throwing everything but the kitchen sink into this meet I would lift regardless of how large the injury risk is.

Not me brother. I don't have time for injuries. If i feel like i am injured then i'm screwing off until i can get it healed up. I don't have time to be getting seriously injured and taking a month off of a lift. I would rather blow something off or cruise until it gets better. I'm in it for the long haul, not pulling a door off a burning car with children inside. If that was the case then i would risk the injury and give it a go, but short of that i'm going to err on the side of caution most times.
