MP's Meet Training Log 3rd Edition

Thanks insaiyan. The post was in someone else's thread mentioning their elderly dog having some health issues. She definitely had a good life.

I have a couple of friends with Pit's both are great dogs. One is a female who lives alone and the first time I showed up I thought this might not be good but she came right up to me and we were fast friends. It was that way every time I came over after that. Pits seem to have a pretty good idea which people are dog people and which aren't.

Yeah, sounds about right, they are real good pups. I had my first when i was probably 6-7 and he lived a good six years and then i had his son who lived to 15, great dogs, never bit anybody. Well....the son bit someone once, but they were all drunk and kept getting right in his face, he didnt like alcohol breath,i kept warjing the guy but he kept doing it and Link gave him a little nip and the dude had to get his lip stitched up, his fault imo. Haha

6/1
paused bench 5x135, 5x185, 2x235, 1x285, 1x325, 1x365, 1x397, 2x355

Still trying to dial in form with the lower touch point.

How is your body handling benching heavy so frequently? You're a savage

I've run it several times before. The way I work up it really takes very little out of me. I recommend any powerlifter who isn't happy with where their bench is at try it for at least one meet. It took me a few runs to find my sweet spot in terms of how long to run it. I'm way short of optimum for me this go around due to injury issues.

6/3
close grip bench 10x165, 8x215, 6x245, 3x275

Felt a tug in my left pec on the third rep at 275 so I shut it down. Unreal pec strain close gripping. A little swelling and pain in the area today. Going to have to back off benching for several days. One thing after another this training cycle.

If I had a home gym I'd try the whole Bulgarian method out sometime. I like the sound of it. I do have a nice bench here, but only 300lbs of weight at the moment.

I hope you heal up soon. Looks like there's a bunch of us here running into minor injuries lately.

6/4
deads against bands 2x2 315 medium bands, 2x1 365 medium bands, 2x1 415 monster mini's
pull ups 2x10
pull throughs 2x12 120, 2x10 140
hip flexion 3x10 30

I have to pull the bands extremely tight and at full stretch with the ends of the bands being about seven feet apart looped around dumbbells which are held in place around my power racks and lat pulldown and leg press machines.

Don't know exactly what the tension on them is at the top but is quite a bit particularly with the medium bands. I moved one of the dumbbells from behind the power rack leg to remove the band and let go of the dumbbell once it was clear of the rack and the tension pulled a 100 pound dumbbell about 3 feet across the floor.

Had to go the pull ups short by a couple of sets due to some pain in the pec.

Definitely take a run at it when you can I think you will be happy with the results.

Yeah. Injuries are part of the game for sure but straining your pec while close gripping seems similar to straining your lower back picking up a bag of groceries.

Damn brother, reminds me of when I messed my shoulder up benching 225. It's always when you least expect it! When you weren't completely tight because the weight was light? That's how I got hurt, not respecting the weight.

I set up the same on every set and get tight. My guess is I was unknowingly favoring my right side trying to protect the left bicep tendon. Hard to say for sure but that is all I can figure.

6/8
paused bench 5x135, 5x185, 2x235, 1x285, 1x325, 1x365
dumbbell ohp 12x50, 60, 70 10x80
rear delt raises 3x12 55

365 moved fast but I felt it in my left pec so I had to shut it down. Unfortunately 10 days out there isn't much I can do. My plan now is to not bench again prior to the meet and play it by feel on meet day. Just can't risk a pec tear when my real goals are setting records and reaching the top of the national rankings at 50 which is my next meet and beyond.

6/9
squats 2x12 135, 10x185, 8x235, 6x285, 3x335, 1x385
leg curls 2x12 90, 2x10 100
GHR's 2x15

Received a synvisc injection in right knee late last week. It has had some swelling since but no pain or heat so I decided to squat lightly today to see what the pain level was and maybe work out some of the swelling. Able to hit depth without significant pain in several years!

Ended up working up much higher than I had planned. 385 was about a half inch high but it makes little difference since I'm not squatting at this meet. Will see how things go moving forward but this gives me a small amount of hope that I might be able to do a full meet and take a shot at leading the national rankings in the old men (over 50) category for my next meet.

What exactly is a synvisc inj? Same as cortisone?

Just tell them you want to go with the bionic knee and get it over with. Seriously though, lmk how that gel goes. My training pretty much revolves around my knees. If they hurt i may squat 405 for a couple and have to dig deep for that. If they feel great i can get by with slingshot knee braces and double 605. I feel i may be in the market or target audience for that gel.

The last thing i had heard about globally was an injection to help cartilage growth in the works, but that was the last i heard, maybe 2 years ago.

I will keep you posted. One week in I'm happy particularly given the manufacturers information packet said the average patient feels relief about 4 weeks in which seemed like a long time to me. I got relief within 3 days and now after a week pain has been reduced about 90%.
