I think it was a thrill kill. Just speculation because he made a post on Reddit asking criminals how they chose their victims, how the crime made them feel, how they took steps to get away with it. Plus his career in criminal justice shows he has an interest in crime. Obviously not every criminal justice major is a criminal but there have been other instances of people who worked in law enforcement using their jobs or education to carry out crimes

Not sure how true it is but I heard they ran his dna found at the crime scene through one of those ancestry things and it linked back to one of his family members and then they ran through the possibilities, once they found a family member with a white Elantra registered to them it was pretty obvious

Agreed, his idiot sister probably thought it would be cool to find out what her ancestral background was. But Bryan probably knew that his sister did the 21 and Me. But he was like fuck it, I have this strong urge to kill. I think he knew he was fucked when the news started posting a questionable white Hyundai Elantra. It would have been difficult to explain to his family that the Elantra disappeared, so he decided to hold onto it. Bad move.
