So take hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg and 30 mg Lisinopril for my BP. My rbc has been high so started take grapefruit see extra to help lower it. I just read the two should not be combined. Anyone know why and what problems could occur?

Grapefruit has nothing to do with hctz or lisonopril metabolism. Neither are metabolized by P450 enzymes. .

OTHER bp drugs are, so believe it or not, that warning seems to be based on them all getting lumped into the same basket of being interfered with by grapefruit.

I guess they assume users of BP meds are too stupid to distinguish between them so the blanket advice to avoid is erring on the side of caution.

I googled hydrochlorothiazide and grapefruit and it did say to avoid the two?

Don't trust anything but primary sources. Always verify anything from a conventional or ai search engine that's critical to health.

This is the manufacturers information you get with the drug. These guides are approved for accuracy by the FDA. Contraindications, warnings, and interactions start on page 3:

The odds of the manufacturer and the FDA forgetting to mention that common beverage interferes with the drug are pretty slim, (as in none).

What specific reason does the google result give for avoiding grapefruit juice?
