Hey yall!
Long time lurker, first time poster, glad to be here!
I’ve had a pretty solid background in lifting with a powerlifting focus in the past. Nothing worth bragging about, it was always tailored to the sports I was playing in high school and college. Lots of basic programming, some GVT, and a little bit of 5/3/1 type stuff. At my peak I had an approximate 2/3/4/5pl max for press/bench/squat/deads, but I was also around 260lbs so really not that impressive. I had a shit diet because I was young and dumb and loved (still love) Detroit style pizza. I hadn’t touched anything AAS related because doing AAS while you’re young always seemed kind of dumb, but the act of picking up heavy thing to make dumb head voice be quiet was always really therapeutic for me.
Towards the end of college I picked up a little case of stage IV lymphoma and that definitely set back my lifting career. It was awesome for weight loss, I got below 200lbs for the first time since the 6th grade, but it was also pretty hard to want to keep lifting on account of the whole cancer lifestyle. Once I beat the cancer I finished college and started working because debt, and didn’t really come back to lifting with any seriousness until more recently. I’ve been back at it seriously for about a year, using 5/3/1 to regain the strength I lost, getting back to that 2/3/4pl for p/b/s and getting up to 650ish for deadlifting which is definitely my favorite lift. I also have been working with my doc to manage the downstream effects of cancer, namely super dysfunctional hormone homeostasis, and have been on fairly light trt (120mg/wk) which has been life changing. I’ve spent this last year on the cut of a lifetime, going from about 300lbs bw to a current 205 while maintaining a lot of that strength. Now that I’m older and have taken it seriously for the last year I feel like I’ve got my diet under control with macrofactor and training under control using programming that uses 5/3/1 and more traditional hypertrophy for accessory work.
I’m always interested in learning more about the science side of things, I’ve got degrees in the hard sciences and clinical experience in healthcare that lets me continue to learn more and train the brain. This board has been awesome to learn from, and I’ve really enjoyed the anecdotal experiences with the research perspectives. I figured it was time for me to actually contribute because I’ve gotten to learn a lot from y’all, so here I am!
Moving forward I’m looking to regain mass while I pause the mega cut. I’m looking to take the next 12 weeks to build a good 15lbs back, and to enjoy eating at maintenance for the first time in a year because I am super hungry.
I’m not super online, I don’t use socials and only really cruise the web about a couple times a week, but I’m always happy to chat if someone reaches out.
TLDR: howdy!
