How much ya skwaat?

You've made great progress for not having squatted for a while. Congratulations and keep it up. You'll be at 405 before long. I enjoy these kinds of success stories

Appreciate it, thanks.

Always a concern to keep best form, lower back is wonky, but it works.

I never try to load more than I know I can do multiples of. I ramp up when I can do 8. Not interested in 1 rep max.

I like the oly shoe idea, right now I use neutral (level), thin-soled shoes and it feels like my heel is always a tad too low for comfort.

As RodgerThat pointed out, if you have a narrow or medium squat stance and utilize a more vertical back angle you'll likely benefit from Oly shoes. They also help with hitting depth and minimizing forward knee travel. They're also great for front squats if you do them. I have a pair myself and it's one of the best investments I've made for training n

I don't have a free squat rack at either gym I work out at. On the smith machine, I can do 270 3x10 to parallel after a warm up amd have added an extra 50 at times but struggle. I tried 360 monday and couldn't get parallel as I was scared I'd fold loke a cheap suit. Not impressive, but if you saw my tiny stick legs you'd understand.

405 with a belt @ slightly less then 210lbs body weight.

I do a parallel squat, power lifting stance (little more then shoulder wide) with a low bar placement.

Works like a charm with my herniated disks

Damn Brutus, so where is that putting you near a max on deadlift? 455 for 10 is getting it a bit. Then again, i'm just allergic to anything past 5.

Oh, and since this is about squat i completed a set of 5 at 525 last night. Finally getting back to normal power range after fixing my squat stance to equal my deadlift. For a month it felt like i had a hole at the bottom since i opened my stance up a bit. Goal for this year is to eventually get past 600 again for multiple reps without wraps. Not that i am opposed to wraps, but feeling solid without them tells me something about my joint strength. It has been years since i have been able to go above 500 without wraps and for some reason my joints have been feeling real good lately.

p.s. - i always wear a belt. I would push squat day to the next day if i didn't have one for some reason. Same for deadlift. I'm willing to accept the fact i can't push as much weight without a belt, but i am not willing to jack my back up at all....take too long to recover form a tweak.

My squat and my bench are about the same which is pretty sad. Right now my max squat is probably 350ish.

I did see some dude squat 675 raw this morning. no spotter either. It was very impressive.

Kind of sucked because I was squatting with my piddly weight on another rack at the same time.

I usually don't go over 405 for 8, but had some people watching the other day and got 455 for 8. Right now I'm at 225 5'9.

That is a savage amount of squats man.

I've banged out 530 for one but almost blew out a knee in the process. I find going for volume at 315 is safer on the old joints. Now that I see your post tho it makes me want more again haha

Yeah, 315 is quite comfortable, I think I'll stick to 3 plates until I can easily do several sets of maybe 8 reps at that weight. I like to pyramid, and now I stop at 3 plates, then back down. Feels safe on the back too. I'm also working on a closer stance, to put more stress on the quads. Next step is to splurge on one of the oly shoes - I've got a pair sitting in my Amazon wish list. The dark Adis, not the gay white ones. :-)

Agreed. I always pyramid up with squat and bench. Then when pyramiding down I'll pick a weight like 225 and see how many reps I can bang it out for at the very end

Nice number.

Question about the shoes, why did you mention them? Do Olympic shoes confer an edge?
Not only that but you lose less drive force going up with the sturdier heel that has virtually no compression at the sole. 0 to low compression = more force driving upwards not downwards through your soles

Yes - want them....

I made the mistake of showing the wife the price of those suckers - I'll have to palm that purchase off when I give her a present for her birthday. Which is mid-May so not too far off.

Not so, I pics mine up for 130 the reebok ones can be found as cheap as 75 and romaleos I got lucky on a sale and picked em up for 140 for my girl
