Gut health / Digestion aids

I know for the kimchi I buy there’s a warning label saying that it’s an active fermentation process and not to leave outside the fridge with the cap tightened.

These various foods have low levels of active live probiotics. 1-2 types of microbes only. Meh

If you want the real deal, you'd make your own Kefir from whole milk daily. 26 microbes in real kefir. Not the case with kefir from the store.

So i have been reading about your microbiome in you gut. Its really important, has anyone else heard of this. Its basically your gut bacteria the good stuff. It utilizes you nutrients and in controll of most of what and how you body is feeling.

Prebiotic is organic apple cider vinegar. I drink some daily i live the taste. Like half a shot. It feels good on the body. Then i just upped my fiber. As well as a probiotic pill.

That’s the idea. There’s actually studies that suggest the bacteria in your gut can effect your brain. A study in mice showed that certain gut bacteria caused mice to put up a fight for survival where as if the bacteria was missing from their gut the just laid there and allowed themselves to die. Crazy shit.

Kefir is good stuff. Anything fermented or non pasteurized is good stuff (raw milk/cheese). Raw ginger is also good. There are some good probiotic pills out there that have some great ingredients including fermented foods so I don't write them off completely. It's mostly about finding what works. Most however aren't worth it. They just throw out 20+ strains at random with some big CFU number and who knows if they even survive the stomach acid. Look for pharmacy grade and tested bio availability into the intestines/gut.

For those people interested, this is an excerpt of an article I read years ago. Apparently since then there’s been a lot more human studies that do in fact correlate mental health/mood and positive levels of gut bacteria.

I didn’t see it mentioned in the article here but I thought I remember hearing a broadcast of the researchers saying the mice swam until they died or gave up.

——-

The two mice groups were fed either a Lactobacillus probiotic or a control. The mice were then thrown into a mild water stress test to see how the different groups reacted to the stress. The mice tried escaping from the bowl of water and Zimmerman timed each group to see how long they try for escape. Eventually the normal mice gave up hope, called behavioral despair. The bacteria group dropped into water did not give up, however. Stress hormones were then checked in the lab to see if there was an actual difference. The mice fed the probiotic bacteria had half of the normal stress hormones, and an increase in a particular anti-stress hormone.

In human studies conducted, patients that were fed probiotic mixtures were reported to be “less angry, less anxious, less depressed.”Scientists believed that this has to do with the affect of serotonin on the control of mood. There is a huge supply of serotonin in your gut (80%) and bacteria can feed on this. However, later studies conducted were unable to support a correlation between the probiotic and mood. Although, this has sparked thoughts of treating psychological problems with bacteria probiotics.

Yes i agree cery interesting. Also there are more nerves in the gut then the spinal cord. TO better the bacteria in gut is also how one can become less depresed and less anxious. The new types of medicine are actually going to be vials of bacteria not pills. But thats in a decade or so. This is why its important to keep up to date on lnowloedge

I always forget to get ginger, I read that it's awesome for digestion.

It is definitely just watch out on processed front for salt/preservatives etc. If you can do raw it's best but I understand not everyone can or has time including myself. I found a really low sodium minimal ingredient one that is bottled. Just straight slices and a touch of salt and water in it.

Thanks for the advice!
I always get raw, didn't even know there were bottled ones available. How much should I eat to aid digestion?
