ENORMOUS difference in kidney values when using cystatin C vs the standard BUN + Creatinine

My BUN and creatinine always seem to be creeping up over the last 4 years since I've been on TRT and cycling (I'm not huge by any means) and it concerned me. I just had a panel run and my numbers are wildly different depending on the test. I also take 5g creatine per day.

BUN 29 (6-24 lab range)
Creatinine 1.55 (.76-1.27)
egfr 57 (sub 59 is low)

Now w/cystatin C

Cystatin C .68 (.6-1) lower is better
egfr 122!!!!!!

It's mind blowing to me that one kidney function test that is used overwhelmingly by doctors shows my egfr just under normal and the cystatin C test shows my egfr thru the roof w/pristine kidney function. Have any of you seen such a huge difference in your own bloods?

I just saw a video the other day saying the Cystatin/egfr test is the better one to get. And the fast Googling I just did said it's more arcuate because it's not influenced by diet, exercise, ect.

I did the same tests and got exactly the same results.
that was a relief

Still if you can , make them do a sonography.
Kidney is a pretty fucked up organ as lots of the times chronic problems doesnt cause much obvious symptoms.

Now you know.. I've got to remind my doc constantly why I added Cystatin C, GGT, Apo-B to my labs, lol.
I knew you'd fuckin spaz at creatine, egfr, alt/ ast levels..
Did she bother to look at them before ordering an abdominal ultrasound?
Nope, lol

I got the creatinine through this morning and the cystatin c this afternoon and although I knew it would highly likely be fine it's still quite worrying.

It didn't help that I stopped supplementing creatine a week before, avoided meat for 24hrs and didn't exercise for a few days before to try to make the creatinine as accurate as possible as last time I had 115

Kidneys are one of the last organs I would want to fail on me looks absolutely miserable

You are worrying for nothing you're totally fine given your cystatin c number. It's the true number, not your creatinine.
