We’re on the same basic side here. Fear of these meds is overblown, and particularly, the concern over “breaking something” is nonsense. Worst case scenario, stopping the med ends any problems, except for going bald.
The symptoms aren’t in question. They’re listed on the FDA labels because blind, random clinical trials, the highest standard of evidence, show they clearly happen more on these meds than on placebo.
They’re a well known “class effect” impacting a small number of users.
What’s controversial is the “permanence” PFS advocates claim, which isn’t backed up by science. When the meds are stopped, symptoms resolve.
EDIT: to be clear, when I say a small number of men are affected, I mean small. under 1%.
The vast majority will never experience it, and of those who do, the symptoms actually go away for most of they continue using them for the long term, so it appears the body compensates for whatever it is that causes it. (The theory being some neurosteroid, not DHT itself, hits levels that induce the loss of libido / motivation. 5-Ar not only converts test to DHT, but into a bunch of other minor androgens)
