Hey bros had some blood work done for life insurence and my ALT levels are said to be high
range 0-45 mine are at 63
not sure what it means yet, any one got insite as to what it could be.
the letter has a little blurb about possible liver desease.

ALT is a measurement of a particular liver enzyme. It can be elevated for many different reasons. If your doc is concerned he'll order a GGT test. This is the one that will really show if your liver has issues.

BTW, working out or just being overweight can have an effect on AST values.

ALT is not liver specific. It's also found in muscle tissue. That's why working out can elevate it. Mine is usually twice your level. It has been on every blood test since I was 17 (when I started working out regularly). I'm now 32 (pushing 33) and my liver is still working. :D

Thanks my brothers
I am much relieved but will follow-up just for precuation
I am 45 last sunday 240 6ft1 10%bf.
still like to hit it harder than most my age.
I was in ph. AZ on thursday and friday had a gal ask me at a dinner party if I juiced cause I was so big for my age. all the other men looked fat or out of shape, felt good.

No working out or alcohol for 24 hours prior to having labs drawn.

Yes, elevated LFT's mean you must explore the possibility of hepatitis infection.

good advice from swale. also avoid any oral supps or drugs like acetomeniphin since they can place a load on your liver as well.

Yes, and that was more good advice. I sometimes hear of people using Tylenol for hangover relief. Wow.

TONS of people still do! SO many people haven't heard of this - there needs to be a huge public service announcement on this. The general population doesn't know a thing about cytochrome 450! Almost everyone I tell about tylenol and alcohol - never heard of it!!!
