Affordable Care Act (ACA) - Obamacare

Re: Premiums

Texas Obamacare 'Exchange' Prices Released--Get Ready for Sticker Shock!

Texans under thirty better brace for Obamacare sticker shock, 1200 WOAI news reports.

The prices which young people will have to pay for mandatory health insurance when those 'exchanges' become active next Tuesday are more than twice what a young person is paying now for health coverage.

A healthy 27 year old with no pre existing conditions will pay $138 a month for coverage under the exchange. That is compared to today's free market price for the same health coverage for the same healthy 27 year old of $62.

"The scheme at the heart of Obamacare is that young, healthy people will subsidize health care for younger and sicker people," said John Davidson, a health care analyst at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

Some young people will be eligible for subsidies based on income which will cut their out of pocket costs.

Davidson says the huge increase in the cost of health insurance for young people is one of the 'dirty little secrets' of the affordable care act.

He says if young people refuse to buy health insurance at the exchanges or obtain it through their work place, the entire system is not sustainable.

"It's going to trigger what we call an adverse selection spiral," he said. "If the risk pool doesn't have enough young healthy people in it, the claims costs will go up and up, and then the system collapses."

He points out that Obamacare prohibits the difference in costs between a young healthy 27 year old and a diabetic 62 year old cancer patient cannot be more than three times. That means young people will have to pay more because the costs of the older, sicker person cannot be raised.

Buying health insurance is mandatory under Obamacare, and individuals can be punished with fines or loss of tax refunds if they don't comply.

You can always tell what the lie is based on the name of the bill.

Once this piece of shit idea is in process no one will want to be a part of it.
The stark difference between crony capitalism and crony socialism will be evident.
People will think back fondly on the days when they only wanted to fk us out of money.
This thing will start off bad, and get worse daily. People have no idea what they are in for. No idea what so ever. If I didnt have to be a part of it I'd be lmfao.

Get ready to wait in lines so long they go out the door, just to get the appointment.
Once you get an appointment, take a seat in a worn out thread bare uncomfortable dirty chair. Crammed into a waiting room with so many sick people that you walk in with the flu and leave with meningitis. Kids crying and puking, old people dying while they wait. Pass the whole day waiting to see an unqualified physician, get a diagnosis (kinda), go out to a pharmacy that looks like a dirty closet, wait even longer, get to the window/counter and then be told they are out of the medicine come back next week, you get back next week and they have lost your paperwork---get back in line to make an appointment to see the doctor:eek::eek: Ive lived it fellas, I have walked the path. Oh what a surprise awaits when theory crashes with reality.

What I see being the end-state is a two class system.

The first class are those who have a significant amount of money and are able to pay for services in private hospitals. The best care for the richest.

The second class is everyone else, who is receiving health care from one of the exchanges. In time, private insurance companies will be destroyed, and the country will be on a single-payer system (the government). This is the goal of the ACA, Reid has already slipped up and said this. Pelosi has alluded to this.

Anyone who has ever been in the military or worked for the government knows that once the government puts its hands on anything it turns to shit. It's a fact of life. The government is inefficient. Private business is very efficient, because it has to be, you know, with all that competition. Not sure why people are so blind to this.

So, basically, the ACA will single handedly ruin the American health care system. What was once the bastion of health care in the world will turn into a two class system where only the 1% can afford the best care. The rest of us will have to make due with substandard care, compared to what we're getting now.

Oh yeah, don't forget about the health care rationing that will inevitably happen.

BOEHNER ADVISES AMERICANS TO DELAY GETTING CANCER FOR A YEAR
Boehner Advises Americans to Delay Getting Cancer for a Year : The New Yorker

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In a special Sunday radio address, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) delivered a health tip to the American people, advising them to delay getting cancer for a year.

“We’re involved in a high-stakes fight over our freedom from centralized government control of our lives,” said Mr. Boehner, speaking on behalf of his House colleagues. “You can do your part by delaying getting cancer.”

He added that heart disease, emphysema, and diabetes were among a laundry list of conditions that would be “patriotic to avoid for a year.”

“If you delay getting any of these things for the next twelve months, together we will win this fight,” he said.

In closing, he reassured the American people that in the event of a government shutdown, members of Congress’ health benefits would remain intact: “We want to be in tip-top shape to continue to do the excellent job we’re doing for you.”

ObamaCare Employer Mandate: A List Of Cuts To Work Hours, and Jobs

From Investors. com

ObamaCare's impact on jobs is hotly debated by politicians and economists. Critics say the Affordable Care Act, with its employer mandate to provide health insurance, gives businesses an incentive to cut workers' hours. This year, report after report has rolled in about employers restricting work hours to fewer than 30 per week — the point where the mandate kicks in. Data also point to a record low workweek in low-wage industries.

In the interest of an informed debate, we've compiled a list of job actions with strong proof that ObamaCare's employer mandate is behind cuts to work hours or staffing levels.

As of Sept. 25, our ObamaCare scorecard included 313 employers. Here's our latest analysis, focusing on cuts to adjunct hours at nearly 200 college campuses.

The ObamaCare list methodology is explained further in our initial coverage; click on the employer names in the list below for links to supporting records, mostly news accounts or official documents.

There was a recent published report showing that the "pause" was due to increased absorption of CO2 by the oceans. Unfortunately as the water temperatures are rise the ability of the oceans to absorb CO2 will decrease and eventually you'll hit a point where it not only stops absorbing but it will start pumping CO2 back into the atmosphere. This is when we'll see CO2 levels increase rapidly and the "pause" will be entirely obliterated.

We've seen something similar with the rise of the oceans. In the past 4 years the yearly ocean rise when down significantly - still went up year over year but not nearly as fast as previous years. This was again interpreted by anti-global warming as proof the oceans aren't rising nearly as fast. In reality the La Nina shifted rainfall from the ocean to the Australian content which has had horrific floods in the central part of the continent the past few years. The researched said think of Australia as an upside plate....rain that falls along the coast finds it way back into the ocean but rain in the central part becomes trapped. Turns out the exact amount of water trapped in central Australia is the exact amount of water the oceans didn't rise by the past few years. This water will of course evaporate and find its way back into the ocean and we will see very fast increases in ocean levels - it's already started!

Government works best when it keeps big business in check, yet it is also the most inefficient and wasteful of all "industries" when IT becomes that business.

If government can ensure access and institute SOME cost controls thru insurer competition the idea is workable.

Folks need to understand it still won't be cheap by any means and limiting "life saving" measures to those with "little" chance of improving their already bleak quality of life, MUST cease, IMO

What is your opinion on the aca? Your opinion, not some cut and past articles or videos.
I skimmed this thread, so maybe it a error on my part. But where is your opinion?
Your are a medical professional. Maybe you could educate us anti aca members and change our minds. I am completely open to your personal opinions and willing to learn from your experience.

To become a cardiologist an individual will typically have:
4 years of college
4 years of medical school
3 years of internal medicine training
3 years of cardiology fellowship
...bringing the grand total to 14 YEARS and probably $300k - $400k in debt.

Now, in comes ACA which limits the reward for busting one's ass. I wonder how many new doctors will be willing to sign up for no reward.

Re: Climate Change

I've already rendered my opinion.

However the ACA is close to 2000 pages in its entirety and I have not read it.

I know this, far to many folks end up in EDs because they don't have access to AFFORDABLE out patient primary care, and that must cease if COSTS are to be contained.

Will OBC improve that I believe so but at what cost???

That's the unknown million dollar question, IMO

The problem it's another damn government entitlement program (which I'm generally opposed to because government believes thats THEIR JOB creating employment thru entitlements and the BEAST GROWS) and once those begin they NEVER END!

MILLIONS FLEE OBAMACARE
Millions Flee Obamacare : The New Yorker

UNITED STATES (The Borowitz Report)—Millions of Tea Party loyalists fled the United States in the early morning hours today, seeking what one of them called “the American dream of liberty from health care.”

Harland Dorrinson, 47, a tire salesman from Lexington, Kentucky, packed up his family and whatever belongings he could fit into his Chevy Suburban just hours before the health-insurance exchanges opened, joining the Tea Party’s Freedom Caravan with one goal in mind: escape from Obamacare.

“My father didn’t have health care and neither did my father’s father before him,” he said. “I’ll be damned if I’m going to let my children have it.”

But after driving over ten hours to the Canadian border, Mr. Dorrinson was dismayed to learn that America’s northern neighbor had been in the iron grip of health care for decades.

“The border guard was so calm when he told me, as if it was the most normal thing in the world,” he said. “It’s like he was brainwashed by health care.”

Turning away from Canada, Mr. Dorrinson joined a procession of Tea Party cars heading south to Mexico, noting, “They may have drug cartels and narcoterrorism down there, but at least they’ve kept health care out.”

Mr. Dorrinson was halfway to the southern border before he heard through the Tea Party grapevine that Mexico, too, has public health care, as do Great Britain, Japan, Turkey, Spain, Belgium, New Zealand, Slovenia, and dozens of other countries to which he had considered fleeing.

Undaunted, Mr. Dorrinson said he had begun looking into additional countries, like Chad and North Korea, but he expressed astonishment at a world seemingly overrun by health care.

“It turns out that the United States is one of the last countries on earth to get it,” he said. “It makes me proud to be an American.”

IF debt is incurred it will be during college & medical school, not in residency or specialization.

IF debt is incurred? Dr. Scally you are not that naïve. You incur the debt and then work 80+ hours a week in residency alone. If we had socialised medicine when you were in school, would you have pursued a career in medicine?

The Association of American Medical Colleges has these figures

I made $50k per year in two different residency programs and had killer insurance and a great retirement match. As Dr. S stated ALL of my education debt was college and dental school.

BTW....don't go into medicine if you want to make BIG bucks. I have physician friends making $190K per year working 6 days per week in primary care/pediatrics and a cardiologist whos' only around $350K. I know general dentists making $400K, pediatric dentists making $650K, orthodontists making $850K per year, oral surgeons making $1.0M+.

I think the orthopods probably still do well as do the cosmetic surgeons but medicine is not the route to BIG bucks......Wall Street is a much better choice!
