backfilling

Hey guys, Im currently on test and mast. Im using lure lock syringes, pin M/W/F. But im finding im loosing a lot of oil in the syringe due to the lure lock and the tips. I draw with a 25g 1inch, and then pin with 27g 1/2inch. So doing that 3 times a week looses a lot of oil. Is it okay if I backfill syringes for the week? Just store them in a ziplock bag? Would I need to use 2 different drawing needles for the mast and test to backfill or when I backfill the syringes with test, draw with the same syringe for mast and fill onto of the test backloaded syringe or change the drawing syringe to new one?

I don't get it. Why are you losing oil? Wether you backfill or not, there will be a little deadspace when you inject, so what are you hoping to gain?

My process if i've understood your protocol:

- Fit 25g needle to syringe
- Wipe vial tops with alcohol wipe. Give 15 seconds for alcohol to evaporate
- Poke test vial, draw test
- Poke mast vial, draw mast
- Turn syringe upside down and pull plunger to draw in a little air and clear any oil out of needle dead space. Give a few flicks
- Fit 27g needle
- Push out any remaining air and fill needle with oil
- Inject

What am i missing that's causing you to lose so much oil?

The oil in the base of the tip/needle holds quite a bit of oil causing lose of oil

That's about 3units/0.03ml loss in a low dead space syringe. (Edit: Syringe calibration covers this by the way so you are dosing correctly).

How are you suggesting that will be different if you backfill or do anything differently than i described?

I do the same thing but after I put all the oil in my 27g I pull the plunger back a lil on my 25 g & push the plunger down & the rest of the oil comes out the tip & into the 27g barrel.

use excel low dead space syringes. they help minimize. Sku is 26200 for 3ml luer lock. They have a 1ml too.

Just use the air bubble technique. After you put on the injection needle, push plunger and get all the air out, pull the plunger back one tic. When you turn the pin downward to pin, that air bubble will travel up to the plunger and follow it all the way down as you pin. If you watch it closely you can see the air bubble enter the needle, that’s when you know all the oil is out of the syringe. I was nervous the first few times I tried this but now I do this every pin, for years now. Even if a tiny bit of air gets injected it will not hurt you; you are not injecting inter venous, no air bubble is going to get into your bloodstream and stop your heart!

You can use the air lock technique to minimize dead loss, but ONLY if you're injecting IM.

Why does it matter if you lose a tiny bit of oil? The dose is still correct. The syringe accounts for the deadspace. Are you concerned about losing $0.01 of gear?

...... just keep drawing the plunger back until it pulls the oil of the hub

Then swap the needle

Then put an air bubble between the oil and the syringe

The air will push the last bit of oil out

If you are really bugged out about it, there are "low loss" syringes and needles.

Don't pre-fill syringes for use with oils. The oil will start to dissolve the rubber stopper and you'll be injecting melted rubber
