Captains of Crush hand gripper

While recouping from surgery, I picked up one of these grippers the No.1 model. It was pretty challenging to do a full set at first but after a few weeks I think I’m ready to move on. Does anyone have any experience with them? I’m thinking for jumping to a No. 2 instead of the half steps.

I have the Trainer, #1 and #2. The difference between #1 and #2 is big, so for training purposes you'd want to get the #1.5 or else you only get to choose from high reps to very low reps. Luckily my gym also has them all up to #4.
Sweet. Do the 4s collect dust?

All of them, and they have some rust on lol. The gym is a real hardcore cave with many visitors from around the world, strongmen and powerlifters. I'll ask if anyone has gotten close to or even closed it. Previous gym owner decided to have a full set from the start, and they're all chained to a wall.

We do have some circus dumbbells, the handle is ridiculously big. My short fingers won't do the job regardless of grip strength. These open weight strongmen are gargantuan people in the 400lb range, with humongous heads, hands, knees, feet. It is much easier for them to close these hand grippers, hold dumbbells, lift stones (I am 5ft6, I can't even lift half my deadlift in stones to the first box which is 1m.)

That was the first thing I noticed, I had to adjust my grip after I got it going. My hands are definitely beefier than they are long. Then I watched some online videos and the guys hands made mine look like a child’s. I guess we all work with what we got, lol

I have the #1 and #2 COC grippers, and would echo the idea to get the #1.5 instead of the 2 if you feel like you're no longer making progress. You can def go straight to the #2 if you want, but expect partial reps and low volume for awhile.

I just picked them back up after some time off, and forgot how big the jump from #1 to #2 was. It's significant!

Just to warm up, need 1 and go to 2.
If you need recouping i would do more reps and go up to 1.5
I also have Robert Baraban grippers
You feel much dif. In pounds of heavy.
RB160 feels similar like 2 CoC

Just to check back in. I was doing 3 to 4 sets of like 15-20 reps with my 1s. I picked up the 1.5s and can do 10-15 reps 3-4 sets.

I was afraid it was going to be a waste not going directly to the 2s but I’m happy with the choice.

They are fun. I closed the #3 when I was 16 and certified on it when I was 17 along with the Red Nail. Also closed the 3.5 but never certified on it.

The #4 was too much, I could do 12 reps with the #3 at one time and was still 1/8" from closing the #4 which is a lot with these..that last bit is the toughest.

Found reps were fairly useless, singles were the best for gaining strength. The Rolling Thunder and axles are a much better general grip tool though

This is the one feat I've always wanted to pull off but never can get a full deadlift, IYKYK

When increasing grip strength, trying to increase the length of the time for hold may be more beneficial then the number or reps. Seems strong men often work on holding things for a time. And the data showing those with more grip strength living longer is based of of how long they can hold something.

I like that, thanks. I’ve been doing something similar on the last couple reps of the final set, but maybe I’ll experiment with a longer cadence and squeeze. Maybe alternate styles between sets?

When doing deadlifts, farmers walk or even holding the bar for rows or benching the grip strength is from static holds not the forearms doing reps. Reps may be better for muscle growth but the guy i see(look at the big dead lifters) and my expertise, being able to hold several hundred pounds when doing lifts added probably more mass then anything.

I’ve always struggled with these. My grip never kept up with the rest. At times I would use hooks so I wouldn’t be held back, but now I prefer to actively strengthen my grip. Maybe I should throw in some suitcase holds too. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience
