Russia begins invasion of Ukraine

I have said my personal thoughts and beliefs sometimes, and I clearly state when I'm doing that. But what you and I personally think on economics is not as important as what a Yale economics professor thinks, same goes for what a geopolitics professor at the European University Institute thinks about geopolitics. What you and I pull out of our asses about what we think is going on is not as important as evidence-based facts.

And when you just throw out all these fantasies and conspiracies you can't prove just because you think your world view is as good as reality, no one can take you seriously.

You've said nothing and stated nothing original here bud.

Nothing you say can't be seen on MSNBC on any given night.

And we both know they lie incessantly and merely parrot establishment propoganda.

So let's just stick to observable facts and I ask you to stop copy and paste propoganda press releases pretending like it's proof of anything.

So let's just stick to observable facts and I ask you to stop copy and paste propoganda press releases pretending like it's proof of anything.
Pure fantasy. I haven't even read a Washington press release in many years. It's you who goes onto extremist sites for all your info, not me. Not everything everyone in charge or every expert says is a lie. Not everything on MSNBC is a lie. Sometimes what you think is actually wrong, and I think I've shown that a lot here.

Your extremists sites tell a whole lot less truth that any other source. Your own head and intuition not a better source of info on economics than Yale economics professor Sonnenfeld. Your libertarian podcaster is not a better source of info on geopolitics than geopolitics professor at the European University Institute Alexander Stubb.

If you want me to argue without providing evidence-based facts and expert testimony just because it's more fun for you, that's not an argument - it's just you stating your beliefs/worldview and me stating mine. Yours are very paranoid and conspiratorial, mine I'd like to be able to deal with what we know and prove it.

Listen bitch, Louisiana and Texas oil fields have also produced alot of energy, but never close to this scale.

We're talking about hundreds of thousands of workers and massive processing facilities that have to rival the Gulf Coast. And bitch, I've made my living on the Gulf Coast.
In 2021, the US produced 711 metric tons of oil and Russia produced 536 metric tons. But more importantly it's 18% of Russia's GDP and 2% of the US GDP. Natural gas is even more important to Russia - 60% of their exports.

But the whole point is that Russia is not some economic superpower and I don't know why you hold onto this idea that they are. Their economy is the size of Chile, Italy if we're being generous. And we have good reason to believe these sanctions are hurting them a lot more than they say they are.

We know they're having difficulty manufacturing anything more sophisticated than an artillery shell - they're finding work arounds to the critical component shortage, Iranian drones for example, but it has to be hurting production in all sectors. If our auto industry is hurt by a chip shortage I can see why theirs is down 99%.

Your yale professor said that, while at the same time admitting he doesn't know because Russia doesn't disclose that to anybody, and neither do their trading partners.
This is where your lack of education shows: we know that up until Q2 2022 Russia's economy was 2/3rds energy sector. We don't know after that because they stopped sharing the data but how much do you really think it changed? It's not like they developed an alternative to Tesla or the iPhone last year.

Both Russia and it's trading partners along with several other strong rising economies told Joe Biden to shove his sanctions up his ass.
That much we know.
So the EU and G7 (which includes US, Japan and UK) and Australia have all agreed on this price cap that's just above Russia's production/shipping cost. Plus the insurance companies have threatened to revoke insurance on ships travelling to countries not using the cap.

Why on Earth would anybody pay more? We have no evidence to show anybody is, in fact friendly countries are buying at a discount - $33/barrel in November - meaning Russia loses $24/barrel just to keep the industry going.

I've been wondering for awhile why we haven't taken out Russia's oil refineries. Just send the Ukrainians some missiles or drones, or they could do it with a few mortar teams. It turns out we didn't need to. We have the tools in place to keep the oil flowing and limit Russia's revenues. The cap went into effect in December, and if the next time the EU meets they want to make it $55/barrel, it will be so. In fact a few countries are pushing to make it $51.45

So they can temporarily cripple Russia without destroying them.

You've said nothing and stated nothing original here bud.
Are you kidding me? You didn't know that without asymmetrical warfare like heavy bombers and invulnerable tanks it takes 3x-5x the attackers as defenders to capture an area. You didn't know NATO was training Ukrainian conscripts in the UK, Spain, Germany and Poland.

You didn't know the US had nothing to do with Minsk. You didn't know that Obama deliberately withheld weapons to Ukraine to not provoke Putin and escalate things. You didn't know Zelensky had already offered Putin what he wanted and that there were peace talks going on in March/April 2022 fully supported by Washington. You didn't know that Putin wrote an essay on Ukraine saying it's not a real country and the only thing keeping it separate from Russia is the West.

You didn't know the evidence we have shows only that they talked about not expanding NATO and it was never agreed on, and in fact the agreement they signed was an expansion, that there was no Russian protest during the first expansion wave. You didn't know Ukraine wasn't getting into NATO any time soon. You didn't know who Professor Mearsheimer was even though you posted a video of him.

You didn't know that a kalibre missile has 30+ foreign critical components or that Russia's most modern tank has a French scope/sight. You didn't know we told Russia many times they don't get a sphere of influence and they have the economy of Chile, or Italy if being generous. You didn't know we export 10x more goods than Russia. You didn't know you can't buy a ruble anywhere outside of Russia so we have to trust Russia's valuation.

You didn't know that the lines really haven't moved much since October even though Russia wants Kharkiv, Kherson, Odessa, and Zaporizhzhia and they had more hopes for their offensive than this. You didn't know that Russia is firing 1/3rd the artillery it used to and is facing a shortage of its own. You didn't know Biden couldn't stop the war even if he wanted to. You didn't know that the security of our allies in Eastern Europe is in fact linked to our own. You didn't know 141 countries have condemned Russia in the UN and 40 have sent Ukraine aid.

I mean, I could go on and on about the stuff you've been misinformed on or underinformed on and this is not stuff you'd see on mainstream news because frankly it's more information than the average person cares to know. And every time I tried to teach you something you fought me on it, without looking it up yourself.

It's just that it all pretty much proves your paranoid conspiracy about Biden and his handlers wanting this war, starting the war, and keeping peace from happening is wrong. And that Ukraine is losing badly, running out of soldiers and ours is next is wrong. That Russia really is as strong as we thought they were is wrong. And that's why you don't see your conspiracies on mainstream news, not because Biden banned it. Because there's no basis in reality for your conspiracies.

Washington is not going to "take out Russian oil refineries" you smug, stupid arrogant bitch.

Because, then Russia would "take out" a few hundred million Americans plus our own oil refineries.

Washington wouldn't need to. The Ukrainians would. And Russia couldn't say boo because they've been hitting the Ukrainian electrical grid all winter.

But like I said, we have the tools in place to keep the oil flowing and limit Russia's revenues.

Washington wouldn't need to. The Ukrainians would. And Russia couldn't say boo because they've been hitting the Ukrainian electrical grid all winter.

The Ukrainians would have already done it if they could.

Washington couldn't do it without severe repercussions that destroy the entire regime in Washington. And neither could Ukraine.

Striking at the heart of Russian energy production is a lot different than blowing up an allies pipeline in your own territory.

But like I said, we have the tools in place to keep the oil flowing and limit Russia's revenues.

Really? Don't copy and paste some bullshit propoganda here explain how you think that's possible.

Because is sounds incredibly stupid considering Washington has done pretty much everything it can to limit Russian energy revenues and all that's accomplished is creating record high trading between Russia, China, India and Brazil.

It seems like you can't seem to accept the fact the days of Washington unipolar hegemony is over. Close to Half the world more or less stuck up the middle finger to the Biden administration and his sanctions.

There's obviously a paradigm shift in the dynamics of world power and Washington has missed the memo.

So why don't you explain, without copy and pasting a propoganda pamphlet from the Washington press corps or quoting some idiot propagandist that calls himself a professor of something in the bubble of us academia and explain how YOU think it's possible for Washington to shut down the Russian economy.

The Ukrainians would have already done it if they could.
Well, they already have. It's just another thing you're underinformed on:

And a mortar team could infiltrate Russia and strike a target from miles away. Oil refineries are not hard to blow up.

But you're right, Washington won't send Ukraine long range missiles because they don't want Ukraine using them to attack inside Russia.

Washington couldn't do it without severe repercussions that destroy the entire regime in Washington. And neither could Ukraine.
If we've learned anything over the past year, unless Russia is willing to use nuclear weapons (which would bring nuclear retaliation) there's nothing Russia can do to hurt the US or the West. They simply don't have the economic strength, the diplomatic strength, the cyber strength, the military strength... you do realize they're losing on all fronts, right? At best, they're just hanging in there. To suggest they're actually going to destroy other regimes is ridiculous. They're not as strong as they thought they are or you think they are.

The problem is, if there are facts, information and expert opinion that proves you wrong, you just dismiss it as "bullshit propaganda." How convenient of you.

Russia’s Oil Revenues Plunged By 48% In February
Russian tax revenue from crude oil and petroleum products plummeted by 48% in February from a year earlier due to the much lower price of Russia’s flagship crude grade after the EU banned imports of Russian oil, according to Bloomberg estimates based on official Russian data.

Total tax revenues from oil and natural gas dipped by 46% year over year to $6.9 billion (521 billion Russian rubles) in February, per data from the Russian Finance Ministry published on Friday.
Russia’s revenues from crude oil and oil products alone crumbled by 48% annually to $4.8 billion (361 billion rubles), according to Bloomberg’s calculations. Oil accounted for more than two-thirds of Russia’s energy tax revenue in February.

Russian natural gas revenues also plummeted last month compared to February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine. Natural gas revenues slumped by 42% as Russia cut off gas supplies to a number of EU customers after the invasion.

You can deny it all you want, but it is what it is. Rational people look at the facts and say "ok you're right" but instead you say "I don't want the facts, my 50 years as a rural uneducated Louisiana redneck who watches libertarian podcasters tells me that's all bullshit lies and Russia's oil revenues are better than ever." There's nothing I can say or show you that could convince you otherwise.

But when Russia is selling their oil to China and India at $33/barrel just to keep the industry going, that's something even the Saudis would lose money on and it costs the Saudis much less to extract their oil than it costs Russia.

Like I said, if Ukraine could have done that, they would have already.

You didn't "correct me" or "educate" anybody. You just shot your own argument in the ass by showing that Ukraine has been trying, unsuccessfully to do it.

Again, if they could have done that, they would have.

Washington obviously doesn't want to be blamed for doing it for obvious reasons.

If we've learned anything over the past year, unless Russia is willing to use nuclear weapons (which would bring nuclear retaliation) there's nothing Russia can do to hurt the US or the West.

They don't have to.
All Russia has to do is survive the West. Because Washington is destroying the West.

And there's nothing Washington can do to stop Russia from carrying on.

They simply don't have the economic strength, the diplomatic strength, the cyber strength, the military strength... you do realize they're losing on all fronts, right?

Not at all. They've forged alliances with people like China that are arguably more important than any alliance Washington has with it's own allies.

I don't believe they care what you think either. I don't think their goal is to rule the world like Washington tries to do.

Merely by standing up to the West, by themselves, drawing a line in the sand and defending it from the mighty NATO alliance in front of the whole world as an audience, they've already accomplished what they needed to.

What a gross miscalculation by Washington to think they could simply bully these people into submission. Now, instead they've provoked them to fight and Washington could not fight them and win.

How funny. A bully getting his own shit force fed into his loud mouth.

At best, they're just hanging in there. To suggest they're actually going to destroy other regimes is ridiculous. They're not as strong as they thought they are or you think they are.

Like I said, hanging in there is all they have to do to ultimately win here.

And they're obviously more than strong enough to accomplish that.

The problem is, if there are facts, information and expert opinion that proves you wrong, you just dismiss it as "bullshit propaganda." How convenient of you.

Almost all of what you post is bullshit propoganda and opinions of others. And all of it can be repeated verbatim on CNN any given day.

I thought we both agreed that nobody can trust those numbers anymore than we can the Ukrainian casualty numbers coming out of Kiev

It's funny that an old (formally uneducated) Louisiana redneck has shown an educated urban liberal to be a fool over and over again.

It's because the shit you parrot sounds just as dumb coming from you as it does CNN or the idiot 'yale professor' who claims the Russian economy is collapsing while admitting he has no information on the Russian economy from the Russian people themselves lmfao.

So rational fact....

Russia has all kinds of the parts of Ukraine it wants, and that's most of what's worth having in Ukraine in general and nobody can make them leave.

Another rational fact..

Despite what Washington press releases and Yale mouthpieces for the establishment claim, Russia is buying, selling and trading on the open market and making some very lucrative deals with key world economies. And doing all of this right in the face of the Biden administration sanctions while basically flipping Washington the middle finger.

Another rational fact...

Russia seems capable of manufacturing weapons and munitions well beyond that of NATO and Washington combined. And despite your bullshit assertion that it's all simple artillery rounds, Russia is making and selling some of the most advanced weapons in the world especially in air defense and artillery. The The S-500 Prometey is a good example and now they're selling these to China, India, Iran and others in the world.

In fact, Russia is a major player in military weapons manufacturing and sales in the world.

So your horseshit about them "salvaging old washing machines" or whatever doesn't make any sense.

Neither does your bullshit assertion that their "factories are decrepit and incapable". Because the reality here says that's bullshit.

Lmfao.

I thought we both agreed that nobody can trust those numbers anymore than we can the Ukrainian casualty numbers coming out of Kiev
Well, those oil revenue numbers come from Russia, and they could be lying so we don't hurt them too bad. The cap is going to be something like a thermostat we ratchet up and down to see how badly it's affecting Russia, what it's output and revenues are.

Oil sales are trackable for most of the world, and when Russia is selling their oil to China and India at $33/barrel just to keep the industry going, that's something even the Saudis would lose money on and it costs the Saudis much less to extract their oil than it costs Russia.

The one thing the CIA has good intelligence on is Russia, so we can get a good idea what their revenues look like and the world industry has a pretty good idea what it costs them to produce and ship their oil.

Not at all. They've forged alliances with people like China that are arguably more important than any alliance Washington has with it's own allies.
Russia has no new allies because of this - just Iran, North Korea, Belarus and Syria. Everybody knows who is right and wrong here. It's not like people are saying "oh poor Russia, being bullied by the West." They invaded a sovereign country who was keeping to themselves and did not threaten anybody or ask for it. Nobody can relate to or excuse that, countries have an image to worry about. China wants to look as neutral as possible so they can mediate.

Almost all of what you post is bullshit propoganda and opinions of others. And all of it can be repeated verbatim on CNN any given day.
And your conspiracy theories are not on CNN because they have no foundation in reality, it's just fantasy.

So rational fact....

Russia has all kinds of the parts of Ukraine it wants, and that's most of what's worth having in Ukraine in general and nobody can make them leave.
How is that a fact? In fact Russia does not have areas they specifically and publicly said they wanted.

The The S-500 Prometey is a good example and now they're selling these to China, India, Iran and others in the world.
They're certainly not being delivered right now.

In fact, Russia is a major player in military weapons manufacturing and sales in the world.
They were a major military supplier to poor countries who wanted cheap arms. After seeing how they performed on the battlefield, we'll see if that continues to be the case in the future.

Well, those oil revenue numbers come from Russia, and they could be lying so we don't hurt them too bad. The cap is going to be something like a thermostat we ratchet up and down to see how badly it's affecting Russia, what it's output and revenues are.

I think if this Ukraine war and the sanctions have shown us anything it's that "we" couldn't really hurt "them" very bad economically.

"We" have certainly tried. "Ratchet up that thermostat" anymore and you'll have European countries going into revolt.

I think "we" have "our" worst and not done a hell of alot.

Oil sales are trackable for most of the world, and when Russia is selling their oil to China and India at $33/barrel just to keep the industry going, that's something even the Saudis would lose money on and it costs the Saudis much less to extract their oil than it costs Russia.

You don't know what it costs Russia to extract and refine oil.

You also don't know what they're selling it for because neither Russia, nor the other countries that told "you" to stick "your" sanctions up your ass are reporting any of that to Washington.

The one thing the CIA has good intelligence on is Russia, so we can get a good idea what their revenues look like and the world industry has a pretty good idea what it costs them to produce and ship their oil.

The CIA has better intelligence on American soccer moms protesting at PTA meetings over trans bathrooms than it does Russia.

Besides, they're too busy trying to keep someone from publishing Epstein's client list to be doing much of anything about Russia

Get over yourself

Russia has no new allies because of this - just Iran, North Korea, Belarus and Syria.

China, India, Brazil....most of the southern hemisphere included all told you to fuck yourself over the sanctions.

Everybody knows who is right and wrong here.

Except not everyone agrees.
I've already shown you multiple foreign news sources that don't sound anything like CNN.

Although I would say the largest majority is obviously against the invasion, I will say not everyone sees Russia as the "evil orcs trying to conquer the world".

Alot of the world is very much against the Washington empire and it's mission of a unipolar world order.

It's not like people are saying "oh poor Russia, being bullied by the West." They invaded a sovereign country who was keeping to themselves and did not threaten anybody or ask for it.

Lying bitch.

They weren't "keeping to themselves not threatening anybody". They were trying to purge ethnic Russian people from their own country. Militarizing themselves with NATO weapons

Nobody can relate to or excuse that, countries have an image to worry about. China wants to look as neutral as possible so they can mediate.

China wants to do business.
They're placing themselves to take Washington's spot as the world's superpower and they know they don't need to fight to do it.

In all likelihood, without color revolutions and coups Taiwan will probably vote itself to be part of China.

The middle east, south America, Africa and now the entire Russian federation are beginning to use Chinese currency for trade and exchange.

Washington has fukked themselves big time. They're not smart people.

And your conspiracy theories are not on CNN because they have no foundation in reality, it's just fantasy.

What the fuck are you talking about "conspiracy theories"?

Or are you just slinging shit at the wall hoping it sticks?

How is that a fact? In fact Russia does not have areas they specifically and publicly said they wanted.

The said they were going to exterminate the Ukrainian Nazi militia's and military, liberate the people of the Donbass and secure water and safety of the Crimean people.

That's what they publicly said they wanted.

Ukrainian armies have been smashed.

Everything in the Donbass worth having is firmly under Russian control and Crimea is more Russian today than it was before the invasion.

That's how it's a fact. You see that's observable reality there. Not bullshit propoganda.

There's a big difference

They're certainly not being delivered right now.

Why not?

They were a major military supplier to poor countries who wanted cheap arms. After seeing how they performed on the battlefield, we'll see if that continues to be the case in the future.

China and India are poor countries?
Russian air defense systems and fighter jets(some of the worlds best) are "cheap arms"?

Lmfao

You just never fail to make yourself look stupid.

Because they said so. This comes from the India Times yesterday:
"The delivery of the S-400 air defence missile system to India has been delayed due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict."

The fairy tale idea that the restriction of critical components to manufacture these things isn't going to delay deliveries, that you're just going to plug in Chinese components where Western components were with no compatibility issues, just doesn't have any basis in reality.

China and India are poor countries?
Russian air defense systems and fighter jets(some of the worlds best) are "cheap arms"?
Yeah you list 2 countries but I was referring to their military sales in a general sense, it's mostly cheap arms to poor countries. What other countries buy Russian arms that aren't poor? Turkey was thinking about it.

Now, despite having trouble shooting down HIMARS rockets, I think Russia will continue to sell missile defense systems. They can sell missiles. Foreign sales of Russian fighter jets are pretty much over now - too many reliability and performance issues. After seeing how this equipment performed in Ukraine, who is going to buy any of the rest of it? India has already started buying US 777 artillery guns. HIMARS and javelins are on backorder.

You don't know what it costs Russia to extract and refine oil.
I don't think it's a complete mystery. This comes from the Moscow Times:
"The cost of producing a single barrel of Brent crude oil came in at around $42 for Russian onshore projects, and $44 for offshore projects, IHS Markit estimated. That was more than twice the $17 per barrel production costs in Saudi Arabia — the cheapest in the world."

The said they were going to exterminate the Ukrainian Nazi militia's and military, liberate the people of the Donbass and secure water and safety of the Crimean people.

That's what they publicly said they wanted.
How can you sit there and say Russia has everything it wants when 4 months ago Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that “Kherson Region remains part of the Russian Federation, and this status is legally fixed and defined, and there can be no changes to this status.”?

Yet they don't have Kherson. They don't even have all of the Donbas. It's just that this is all they can get for the time being.

"We're on the verge of a civil war here in America between the supporters of the Washington DC establishment and those who oppose the entrenched buerocracy.
Our right to carry and own guns is all that's kept our government from turning into a type of authoritarian despot."
"America is going to go through some changes, possibly even split into a few separate republic's, but at least we'll have another chance to have at least one free Republic again in north America"

"I know for a fact that the elements in Washington have as much contempt for me, and American people like me, as they do the Russians or anybody else they hate."
"Then Washington will have to send American troops to die for their money laundering operation or else try to convince European countries to enter the war. Which ain't going to happen"

Yeah, you're not going to see this on mainstream news because it's not real, it comes from someone who cannot separate reality from fantasy. And mainstream news is not lying just because they are not saying that.

You don't know that has to do with components.

It could be because they're using them in Ukraine.

You're talking out your ass when you say components can't be interchangeable. I work on machinery for a living. Very few things cannot be substituted for something else.

And given time, even those things can be phased out

Yeah you list 2 countries but I was referring to their military sales in a general sense, it's mostly cheap arms to poor countries. What other countries buy Russian arms that aren't poor? Turkey was thinking about it.

In other words, Russia sells some high end shit as well. And to some high end clients

Turkey was considering sending some of it's Russian made air defense batteries to Ukraine just a few weeks ago.
It's literally supposed to be some of the best on the market.

Javelins and himars are on backorder because Ukraine has already used most of the NATO arsenal of them. They can't produce them very quickly at all and they cost a lot.

I'm certain you don't work with weapons or tools for a living and you have soft hands and skin.

The best tool for the job isn't always the fanciest most expensive with the most bells and whistles. More often than not it's the rugged one that works as intended everytime you need it to.

As far as fighter jets, the f-35 is just about the biggest piece of shit on the market. Along with the piece of shit Abraham tank with a jet engine and a 8 hour fuel tank with a massive heat signature you can see from space.
But a few people are still buying them. Because NATO makes them and Washington lobbyists have got politicians to invest in the garbage whether it works or not.

Russian jets overall are just as good.
Russian artillery is marginally better and they have a lot more of it.

US naval vessels, are probably the best on the planet. I think the Chinese have a lot of decent shops, but nowhere near the naval power of the US.

Not complicated to figure out considering that Russia is an infantry and land power and the US is a maritime naval power.

Now, despite having trouble shooting down HIMARS rockets, I think Russia will continue to sell missile defense systems. They can sell missiles. Foreign sales of Russian fighter jets are pretty much over now - too many reliability and performance issues.
Lmfao

No worse than the f 35

NATO makes people buy the pieces of shit are the only reason Lockheed sells them

After seeing how this equipment performed in Ukraine, who is going to buy any of the rest of it. India has already started buying US 777 artillery guns. HIMARS and javelins are on backorder.

Not sure what your talking about.

At three Ukrainian armies have been pulverized with that stuff.

You're just spewing bullshit now

I don't think it's a complete mystery. This comes from the Moscow Times:
"The cost of producing a single barrel of Brent crude oil came in at around $42 for Russian onshore projects, and $44 for offshore projects, IHS Markit estimated. That was more than twice the $17 per barrel production costs in Saudi Arabia — the cheapest in the world."

Well assuming that's true, it's a lot higher than the 30$ you said before.

But we still can't say for sure what type of profit that has for them.

So why do you keep pretending

None of that is "conspiracy theories"

Yes, a lot higher. That's what it costs Russia to extract, $42-$44 plus $10-$12 per barrel to ship. So you can see why selling it to China and India for $30 is an issue.
