What Age did your Strength/Recovery take a Big hit?

Probably just getting older plus doing stuff you're not used to, but already too strong for your own good on. I had almost the exact thing happen a few years ago. Had never done Zercher squats in my life, but could do 315lbs for reps the first time trying them. Started doing them regularly for a couple weeks and then exactly like you described felt that pop. All strength instantly all strength went out of that leg. And yeah it took 8-12 weeks to get over it.

In my opinion best thing is make sure to get plenty warmed up, keep up with mobility and stretching, make sure to hit the stabilizers, and do some high rep stuff for blood flow.
Yeah I've been out for a long drive in the car tonight as seen as I can't do anything else!! Thought of everything I can do to make sure it does not happen again and thought to myself - right we need to do more mobility work than I do currently which means more hamstring stretching and in terms of the actual ramp up I need to be doing more reps with things like 315 and 405. Make sure I leave a rest day before deads (which I didn't do this time as I benched) and things should be okay, if they aren't then there is nothing more I can do.

Its funny man as its 48 hours since it happened now and there are no bruises on the back of my leg which I am amazed at, but it has to be torn as with a strain it wouldn't pop would it? I mean the pop sound is the actual muscle snapping and releasing tension right?

I never went to a doctor over it. From research partial tears are possible though. I also felt the noticeable pop and kinda felt like a bunch of rubber bands popping loose. I wasn't totally crippled though. Could still walk with a limp as long as I didn't put too much pressure on that leg.

Yeah its funny as I can walk fairly normally if done slow to medium pace - but once I stride too far I kind of limp and drop down on the injured leg and it feels like it is going to give way as I must overstretch the hamstring lol

I am finding any movement that involves me just putting bodyweight on the injured leg momentarily is the worst for pain - such as walking up stairs, putting my trousers/boxers on and stepping up into the shower. Getting up and down off the crapper is rather awkward too! LMAO And wiping ....

I'd definitely be easy with it for at least 4-6 weeks. I thought mine was feeling better after like 2-3 weeks and tried to deadlift and made it worse. Took a solid 6-8 weeks off after that.
