Fruit and Veg. Are you getting enough?

We all know about the 5 a day rule but how many of you actually pay any attention to it? I was looking at my diet the other day and noticed that I actually don't eat many vegetables anymore unless they've been Incorporated into a batch cook like a casserole. I get an adequate intake of fruit and grains/pulses but not much veg.

Are vegetables actually important?

When I don’t eat enough vegetables, my digestion worsens and general discomfort appears. I have a rule, I eat protein and carbohydrates, always add vegetables either fresh or steamed

When you say either fresh or steamed do you actually mean raw or cooked? Most people steam or boil fresh veggies to cook them before eating so I'm a bit confused by your post.

It's all the extra meal prep, cost, and cooking time, that turned into a hassle for me and made me stop eating veg.

I mean that it’s not just to cook, but to cook in a double boiler, you can also cook on the grill, and as I said earlier, fresh. For me, cooking is fun. I love to cook for myself and my family.

I dont fuck with veggies or fruit. I take fiber supplements and a really good multivitamin. Ya gotta move the poop! Veggies are important for fiber. You need 14g of fiber per 1000 calories. Since our metabolism is what fuels our hobby you have make considerations for fiber

Oatmeal in amazing for this, and i have a cup of dry oatmeal every AM on a bulk, realy helps in so many ways.

Going to have to increase though, my water intake its poor.

Veggies and carbs aren't important to humans. You can get all of your nutritional needs from meat and diary and organs such as the liver is extremely nutrient-dense. Humans were hunter gatherers for 2 million years, being mostly hypercarnivorous until recently (10,000 bc) when they started cultivation. We basically evolved to be hypercarnivores and we digest better vitamins from animals rather than plants

Fruit and vegetables are definitely lacking from my diet, so although you can't really say they are a substitute for them I do consume a tonne of vitamins everyday. A Multivitamin, Super vit B complex, Vit C tablets, 3 grams Cod liver oil, Zinc tabs etc.

I like this savage "meat eater" philosophy but I think we've evolved and got better educated since the dinosaur days ;)

The wife picked up a Pure juicer so we drink quite a bit. We also have salads with dinner a couple times a week.

I get through a couple of raw salads each week with lettuce, onion, red peppers, but I haven't actually eaten veg like broccoli, cauli, carrots, green beans, peas, asparagus, greens, tomatoes, celery, mange tout, cabbage etc for ages.

I miss eating peas (petit pois) though. I like those a lot.

Agricultural revolution and domestication of animals allowed humans to form civilizations but we can't change the fact that we're still a carnivorous specie. Our bodies began to deteriorate the minute we substituted meat for grains. hunter gatherers were much taller, stronger and had healthy bones than farmers. It's actually hard for us to digest nutrients from plants.

I don't eat them on the side much either. Asparagus with garlic butter on occasion

I do not think that modern vegetables and fruits can be considered as a source of vitamins. I think they lie. Vitamins are best taken from supplements.

I am sure that vegeterism is a tribute to fashion and nothing more. Man must eat meat and other necessary nutrients. Man is not a cow to chew only grass.
