Vice presidential fact check

New York Times vice presidential debate fact-check

Seeking to rebut criticism of President Trump’s handling of the pandemic — Ms. Harris called it the “greatest failure of any presidential administration” — Mr. Pence deployed a number of misleading or inaccurate arguments. He mischaracterized the White House event at which many officials appear to have been infected with the virus, overstated the likelihood that a vaccine will be in widespread distribution by the end of the year and exaggerated the impact of the limited travel ban imposed on China.

Mr. Pence also exaggerated or mischaracterized the Obama administration’s record in dealing with smaller scale pandemics and inaccurately said that the Trump administration had not dismantled a unit in the National Security Council dedicated to pandemic preparedness. He also employed false, misleading or exaggerated statements in debating abortion, climate change and the administration’s record in fighting the Islamic State.

Ms. Harris overstated some of her arguments. She said the manufacturing sector is in a recession when it is not. She suggested that if elected, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. would repeal Mr. Trump’s tax cuts on Day One, a step that would actually require a time-consuming effort to pass new tax legislation in Congress — and in any case Mr. Biden has only proposed rolling back portions of the Trump tax cuts.

Not sure why you would post a fact check by CNN (or the NY Times). It sure didn't seem like a fair breakdown to me.

Even so, tax and environment issues discussed alone would make me want to vote for Trump (If I were to actually vote), and that was if I took the fact checkers at face value.

The lock down crap was political theater on both sides, and the lives saved or lost claims by both were wildly inaccurate. The facts are that Trump would allow commerce in the face of the virus as he's already proven, and Biden would destroy commerce as he's already promised. Most of the harm to the economy and ultimately to the people was caused by state governors, not the federal government.

Really? We're still believing CNN and NY Times are impartial fact checkers?

What is this? Orwell's 1984? I'm just going to go ahead and say that any Media outlet is not longer an impartial fact checker. It is literally their business model to pander to the viewer. Nobody actually wants the truth on either side, They want validation of their viewpoints and I promise their preferred media outlet will give it to them.

Much better. I won't even read NYT articles anymore, even after they took down their ad blocker blocker.

This is what the press/media has always done. It's just more obvious these days. CNN and NYT, however, have taken deception to extremes too many times to count or forgive. I don't mind bias and embellishment so much, but intentional focused deception is a form of fraud IMO, and should be penalized by consumers.

Forbes and Business Insider still have that and I don't read their articles either.

I haven't had a single virus or malware infection since I started using an ad blocker, at least not one I couldn't easily trace back to the source. If I really want to read something on a site that blocks ad blockers, I use a virtual machine.

Either a VM or a Linux machine. I do my web browsing on my Linux workstation...less chance of an infection thru an ad that's displaying.
I have had that happen in Windows a couple times when not using an adblocker. Nowadays ads are a vector for malware so yes an adblocker is a must especially on Windows.

Thus I avoid sites that use some adblocker blocker when on Windows. On Linux I'll disable the adblocker on sites that I do appreciate.

trump is bad for the environment, and his tax cuts put us in an evn deeper deficit hole.

"
At a CNN climate change town hall for Democratic presidential candidates last year, Harris said, “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking. Starting with what we can do from Day One on public lands.” Now, as Biden’s running mate, she is bound to his agenda, which is different.

Biden has an ambitious climate plan that seeks to rapidly reduce use of fossil fuels. He says he does not support banning hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, however, and says he doubts such a ban is possible.

As far as Trump and climate change, Trump’s public comments as president all dismiss the science on climate change — that it’s caused by people burning fossil fuels, and it’s worsening sharply. As recently as last month, Trump said, “I don’t think science knows” what it’s talking about regarding global warming and the resulting worsening of wildfires, hurricanes and other natural disasters. He’s mocked the science in many public comments and tweets.

His regulation-cutting has eliminated key Obama-era efforts to reduce fossil fuel emissions."

None of what CNNs fact checks pointed out can be disputed factually . If so please do

Geez. Stop spending increases.

Just three programs: social security, medicare, and medicaid, are growing so fast that they will soon eat up everything that you can tax out of an economy without damaging it (which is roughly 19% of GDP).

And we got to watch Kamal Harris propose even more spending programs that currently do not exist . . .

Social Security, Medicare, & Interest Drive 3/4 of Spending Growth

Why Medicare and Social Security keep growing | Stanford News

You simply cannot keep up with federal spending through tax increases. It is not possible. You have to control spending.

Unfortunately, neither party is interested in doing that. The reason is simple. American voters are stupid. They will vote out any party that tries to control spending, damn the long term consequences.

Numbers don't lie, and math is math. The money and borrowing and debt and interest payments will eventually end up at a tipping point.

You can't just stop spending increases....but you can look at how you spend and moderate it that way...especially when it come to entitlements...But massive tax cuts are not going to do anything but make the gap larger. Before COVID trump had done absolutely nothing to curb the deficit, and all those republicans that cried about Obama being reckless about it, said NOTHING.

You can't just stop spending increases....

Spoken like a true democrat. You should run for office and spend other people’s money on unneeded things because you know, you can.

Or, we could get rid of base line budgeting in the government and pass balanced budget laws that prevent government morons from wasting so much of the private sector’s money. It really is that easy, but you know, the thing.....

I agree with almost everything you said except for the first sentence. I would amend that sentence as:

Trump is bad for environmentalists and their agendas, and Trump's tax cuts make it more obvious the Fed is the real provider of federal financing.

None of what CNNs fact checks pointed out can be disputed factually . If so please do

I didn't dispute the facts, didn't even consider whether any of them were true or false. I said it wasn't a fair breakdown.

In any case, my perspective on many of the topics covered make most of the facts mute. They might as well have been arguing over which end of an egg should be opened, and whether a candidate opened the correct end or lied about it.

Sure you can. You can even decrease spending. 18 million down to 2.7 million from 1919 to 1927 - and the 20s were unprecedented prosperity, roaring 20s . . .

But too many voters like you (and many of them are Republican)

You mean like trumps(republican) doing by ballooning the deficit? You have to have a target before you start adjusting spending otherwise you cause more harm than good...at least that's what republicans were saying before trump took office now i guess it doesnt matter
