Here's what he says:

You eat in a surplus of 300 Cal's for 12 days, and that's a lb of fat. 3600 Cal's obviously is 100 Cal's over a lb. BUT DOESN'T A LOW CALORIC SURPLUS EQUAL LEAN GAINS???

He said eating in a caloric surplus makes you fat, and you should eat at maintenance to gain muscle! WHAT???

He also said you can gain muscle in a Caloric deficet! If this is all true than I know nothing about diet after all...

The best advice is to not listen to him

I'm disregarding what he said about this subject.
The only reason I was listening to him in the first place because I wanted to hear what a 36K a year coach had to offer. I can't believe someone so highly regarded and expensive lacks fundamental understanding on the basis of nutrition and bodybuilding science. Blows my mind!

Where do you get that he’s 36k for a year? Oh, Nick G4P Tryjelly. Honestly Greg has a lot of good info. He’s a very smart guy and I think is great for certain people. I wouldn’t hire him to become a mass monster.

In the comments as well they mention it. Also coach Greg said right now In response to the Nick trigili video, he's only 24,000 a year. Still 2,000 a month. For the record I don't fuck with Nick trigili.
I just saw the video about coach Greg responding to being a 36K a year coach in my recommended, before that video I had never even watched a Greg Doucette video. I've watched Nick trigili a few times in the past, but I don't like him or watch him. I think he's a sad sap and a loser. I fuck with coach Greg. He's got some good content no doubt.

What do you think about what he said on this subject here though? You didn't comment on that, just endorsed Him. I get it, he's very knowledgeable about a lot of things. I think his cook books are awesome, especially because they offer awesome tasting variety of healthy and caloric dense foods.

I don’t really endorse him. I think his advice is good for the general public who want to get fit. I don’t think it’s good advice for people who want to put on the most size as quick as possible. I think his maingaining thing will have someone spinning their wheels. People may not agree with me and that’s fine but I think a good approach is growing into your calories. Start at 500-1000calories over and grow into it then up your cals somemore. When you start getting too fat then start pulling calories back. 2steps forward 1 step back

We're actually on the same page, and I agree with you on that. I'd go further and even say start at just 300 over your calories.

Yeah it almost goes against what most people tell you about getting bigger when it comes to diet. So what is the right amount of calorie surplus to gain as much muscle as possible and the least amount of fat....? Probably different for everyone. How much weight gain a week is optimal for growth before you're putting on too much fat (serious question)? That too is probably different for everyone, but I would like to hear your take on it. Greg also says his cook book is NOT for someone who is trying to bulk. Which I don't get because most of the recipes in it are high in protein and low in fat, as well as the amount of carbs in most of the meals. If you're counting your calories, why wouldn't these meals be good for putting on mass as long as your eating a balanced healthy diet....?

When he says his cook book isn't optimal for a bulk, I think he means because they're very filling caloric dense meals and some people can't eat enough on it. Not a problem I'd ever have, I've always had a big appetite. Maybe also because if those meals are indeed high Protien, high carb, low fat than a very low fat diet isn't also optimal for muscle aquisition. Got to have fat to assist muscle growth.

And like you said, it's different for everyone when how much muscle and calories to go Into surplus every week. It comes down to person specific factors. How are you training, sleeping, your metabolism, your hormone levels, your current size and experience. It all goes into play. An open BB in the ifbb gaining 5lbs of muscle in a year had a good year imo.

Nerdy answer: cut to 10% bf and bulk to 15% bf, easier? Cut untill you see abs, bulk untill you stop to see them or you don't like anymore how you look

If you don't over eat, and utilitize a small Caloric surplus you can steadily make lean gains and keep fat gain to a minimal. You should be able to grow and not raise your Bodyfat percentage, it's more technical and more challenging but I feel that's also best way to do it. It's so much more efficient. What you said in a nutshell works though no doubt. I personally hate long diets... So I'd rather slowly gain that muscle tissue and keep fat gain Minimal to non-existent.

His whole schtick is high volume low calorie foods. That’s why it’s not ideal to bulk with. You would want the opposite in a bulk.

I followed Greg for a while and thought he was great and then it got to the point where i can’t even listen to his voice for 5 seconds. He’s marketing and trying to reinvent the wheel to make money. Good for him and it’s helpful to a lot of people that can’t stick to a bodybuilding diet but he also has killer genetics and thinks that his way is better than the traditional method which is not the case. For him, yes.. but he can’t see past the fact that just because something works for him doesn’t mean it’s optimal or it will work for everyone.

If that style diet works for YOU, then great! But he acts like you’re a fucking idiot if you do a traditional bodybuilding diet.

Name one open bodybuilder that tries to put on as much muscle as possible in an offseason that eats at maintenance. There’s a reason for that. It’s been tried and true for years and he thinks that if he calls enough people idiots for doing that he will reinvent the wheel.

His target market is the average joe who can’t stick to a tough diet. So if they come along and this new style works for them that’s awesome, but don’t go around trashing the method used by the best bodybuilders in the world for decades.

I’d recommend listening Fouad’s podcast instead.

Yup, and funny you mention Fouad's podcast. I haven't listened to him yet, but I actually discovered his channel today and hit subscribe.

One of the guys on Fouads podcast used Greg and he pretty much said if you want to grow big Greg is not the way to go. He worded it a little different maybe 10 to 15 episodes ago not sure thou. Sorry body builder huge

I didn't mind the first couple videos he posted when he started his channel. After watching a few I came across one where he was bragging about having the stinkiest farts around and how he shits himself all day long. I haven't watched another one since. Lol. That was just a little too stupid for me. You don't need to eat popcorn with every meal to get your fiber in. Lol
