So many things to say here... So many things to say...
I think all I am going to say at this point and time is if you had the opportunity to directly discuss this topic with @Dresden and you spent that time undermining his opinions you're part of the problem. Change starts with education and discussion. I'll leave the education portion of this alone for now but the discussion part was largely missed. Discussion involves listening, which again largely didn't happen. When your first reaction to a man who is fighting for systematic change is to dredge up black on black crime to deflect from actually discussing his direct issues, from his point of view, you didn't listen to him. That's part of the problem.
Discussing and debating corrective actions and cultural changes needed to make things better for everyone are a core element in keeping this country together. If I'm not mistaken, I've seen @Dresden even post something about people should have the right to fly a rebel flag. You want a start at helping correct current racial issues on meso? Have as much patience and understanding as a black guy who wants you to be able to have whatever flag you want, even if it has direct ties to racism.
I'll say that if I had to live with any one of the oppressive factors that my forefathers did or that some ethnic groups currently do I would absolutely be fighting back. Don't be surprised when stupid threads, stupid posts and absolutely classless members get treated with zero respect. This thread provided plenty to lament.
It's mind-boggling the extremes to which people will go to avoid acknowledging that police brutality and systemic racism against Black Americans in the criminal justice system is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
For example,
But but white lives matter too...
But but Black people are racist too...
But but Black people are blaming white people for everything...
But but Black people have many more advantages than White people (black privilege)...
But but white people are the biggest victims (of everything)...
But but Black on Black crime is a more serious problem...
But but absent Black fathers...
But but Black Americans have it much better that Blacks in other countries...
But but President Obama was Black...
Quite honestly, none of these assertions fundamentally changes the problem of police brutality. So if you're using any of these to discredit the movement for police reform, you are:
(a) okay with police brutality - white, black, it's all good to you, or...
(b) not okay with police brutality - but do not think it discriminates based on skin color, or...
(c) straight-up racist, or...
(d) being manipulated by racists and others seeking race/culture war; and those who want to discredit/resist police reform for whatever reason; and/or politicians/pundits and their respective agendas.
For example,

There’s either dignity for everybody or for nobody. You can come at things from one side of a dialectic that was delivered to you to keep problems online, but who really listens when you speak that way? That’s what you’re doing here.
This whole thing, treating society like a zero sum game, it’s spiritually unproductive and destructive. The best thing you can do is to realize that odds are, there are many people whose day you made much worse out of ignorance or otherwise, so approach humanity at large with some respect and humility. Rather than being so sure that this or that sort is the problem, and you most definitely aren’t. That line exists for everyone, and it’s always an intimate decision, regardless of the space you try to put there.
I’m with @ickyrica mostly. As a muscular white man with some self respect, I’d love if people were more open talking about what’s interpreted as what and what I’m missing in different situations (in real life, not on my smartphone) instead of making assumptions. No emotional blackmail. That’s not truth. People are not so simple as to justify the complete lack of nuance that comes from dogma.
White and black (and indigenous) people in America have a convoluted history that conscientious citizens have a duty to create a space to discuss - without political opportunism.
I saw some attempted movement away from police brutality against blacks during the riots and protests, something along the lines of parlaying the energy into abolishing ICE. Regardless of your particular views on that, don’t you agree that’s disrespectful at least?
This country would look a lot different if elites had some faith and good will for people. Which is why you shouldn’t go whole hog at their first gun shot, keep your composure, and just pay attention.

When I hear or read “black lives matter” I take it literally “black lives” and there are “black lives” in Africa that are being enslaved and tortured to this day. I just think that our agenda here of BLM is minor compared to a “black life mattering” in Africa. Here in the states, as a black male, such as Obama, can be president of the United States, a multi million dollar athlete such as Lebron James and become a famous movie star such as Denzel Washington..

Not all of it but Jesus Christ, why does it always have to be the same three guys that can communicate like normal people? Half of this thread is passive aggressive bullshit. Not one post rendered a solution to any of these problems, not even a bad solution at that. I've happily went toe to toe with @Dresden and it was about the flag. I hate when people kneel to show support. I feel it's wrong. My approach to the argument, while emotional and aggressive, gave a solution. You want to make a stand with sports as your soap box? No more police details. All security is run by African American owned security firms. And I fully support LEO as well, more than the average man I'm willing to bet. It's a directed solution and makes much better sense imo. If he likes it or not, no clue, but it's better than me telling him stats about black on black violence to avoid the real issues. My question to anyone reading this is what realistic options can you think of that are moving society forward, rather than just sling mud? We all act like we are smarter guys, let's use that intelligence for something better maybe?
