Not sure with in person or online. I am very motivated, disciplined and a self starter so the need for a trainer front and center most likely isn't needed, I think?
- You may be surprised what a difference it makes to have someone there in person. I would say it helps with motivation, knocking out a few reps that're close to failure and most importantly it keeps you accountable. Now, I use an online trainer and have for a bit over a year now. Previously it was in person. That trainer taught me how to push myself further than I had before, and I don't think I would get out of my current program what I am, without working with him first. Does that make sense? A partner can go a LONG way, too.
On the synthol, I hear you. I was thinking I may get that as part of a reply. Baby steps first haha. Revisit synthol later. Way later haha.
-Disregard synthol, I wouldn't even think about it.
The trainer seemed very gifted and knows his shit. I made the audio for a buddy of mine for his first comp. The trainer took him to a 1st place junior class, 1st place novice and best poser award, first show. I know more than the trainer was at work here; i.e. genetics, other competitors etc. But it goes to show he does have something to offer so your advice about him rings true.
About me...

245#
6'
12-15% bf
Tried a Prohormone once a few years ago, steelcrushers dmz. I didn't get into anything else until this cycle which I just finished, test c @ 500 wk/16wks. I responded well to it.
- Yeah, prohormones are a waste. This is a good first cycle. Keep moving up slowly. 12% BF at 245#? hmm, that would be a pretty solid base with 1 cycle.
Training history is varied. Very athletic when I was younger. Multiple sports, lots of cardio and weights, got into cross fit for a bit. All around active dude. At this point I am trying to keep the strength I ganed while on cycle. I have trained low weight/high reps, low reps/high weight, wicked intense training until you puke etc. Been at it a while I guess.
I had a good injury a few years ago. I blew my left knee/leg out. I ripped the articular cartilage from the bottom of my femur, approx the size of a silver dollar. The docs have "fixed" that with a carticel implant and an ostiotomy. I never got back into working out man. Felt like a slug and had no drive. My buddy got me going to the gym again and ended up turning me onto PH. Ended up where I am today. I would like to try a push/pull comp at some point but my leg isn't strong enough yet. Just really started going over three plates for reps. very interested in BB as well obviously
So what do you think?
I think you're headed in the right direction. I would document your lifts and take photos of yourself. Start to address what is, and what is not, working. I would definitely give the coach a try, nothing to lose. I would constantly study nutrition, as well.
