I am toying with the idea of BB. Want to talk with someone about it. Wondering what the north east USA has for resources here in Meso? I knew a 'pro trainer' from way way back in the day and started to track him down but am a bit afraid because everything I read about him these days is basically in reference to his use and love of synthol. Not my speed lol.

Maybe I don't need local support to start? What I want to know is can i BB? At 34 am I to old to start down this path? What the hell am I even getting into?

I know this is very open ended and I apologize for not doing more homework on this first...

Most high level BB'ers use synthol, you'll have to swallow that pill and get over it. You don't have to, and if he mentions it to you, just decline....

His alleged "love" of synthol in no way disqualifies his knowledge of training and diet. I wouldn't let other people shit talk this person out of your mind for a trainer.

Do you feel you'd prefer an in person trainer, or would online work for you? What're your stats (age, training experience, cycle experience, weight, bf %)?

I will help where/how I can.

Not sure with in person or online. I am very motivated, disciplined and a self starter so the need for a trainer front and center most likely isn't needed, I think?

On the synthol, I hear you. I was thinking I may get that as part of a reply. Baby steps first haha. Revisit synthol later. Way later haha.

The trainer seemed very gifted and knows his shit. I made the audio for a buddy of mine for his first comp. The trainer took him to a 1st place junior class, 1st place novice and best poser award, first show. I know more than the trainer was at work here; i.e. genetics, other competitors etc. But it goes to show he does have something to offer so your advice about him rings true.

Tried a Prohormone once a few years ago, steelcrushers dmz. I didn't get into anything else until this cycle which I just finished, test c @ 500 wk/16wks. I responded well to it.

Training history is varied. Very athletic when I was younger. Multiple sports, lots of cardio and weights, got into cross fit for a bit. All around active dude. At this point I am trying to keep the strength I ganed while on cycle. I have trained low weight/high reps, low reps/high weight, wicked intense training until you puke etc. Been at it a while I guess.

I had a good injury a few years ago. I blew my left knee/leg out. I ripped the articular cartilage from the bottom of my femur, approx the size of a silver dollar. The docs have "fixed" that with a carticel implant and an ostiotomy. I never got back into working out man. Felt like a slug and had no drive. My buddy got me going to the gym again and ended up turning me onto PH. Ended up where I am today. I would like to try a push/pull comp at some point but my leg isn't strong enough yet. Just really started going over three plates for reps. very interested in BB as well obviously

So what do you think?

- You may be surprised what a difference it makes to have someone there in person. I would say it helps with motivation, knocking out a few reps that're close to failure and most importantly it keeps you accountable. Now, I use an online trainer and have for a bit over a year now. Previously it was in person. That trainer taught me how to push myself further than I had before, and I don't think I would get out of my current program what I am, without working with him first. Does that make sense? A partner can go a LONG way, too.

-Disregard synthol, I wouldn't even think about it.

- Yeah, prohormones are a waste. This is a good first cycle. Keep moving up slowly. 12% BF at 245#? hmm, that would be a pretty solid base with 1 cycle.

I think you're headed in the right direction. I would document your lifts and take photos of yourself. Start to address what is, and what is not, working. I would definitely give the coach a try, nothing to lose. I would constantly study nutrition, as well.

Thank you for the feedback. It is not falling in deaf ears.

I will post a few pics. I do have a solid base and have always been able to add size easily. Body fat has always fallen into place naturally when diet/training are on point. However, far the sake of the conversation I will have my BF tested tomorrow at the gym. They have calipers and an electronic one, I believe you have to fast for a few hours prior to the calipers.

Interested to hear what you find out.

I'm interested as well. I'm wondering if that sliding scale I had in the beginning of the convo was off lol, if so by how much!

This is from today. I weighed in at 243. I know I'm not super fit or shredded but I figured I have to be low teens BF%, haha maybe not

I will put some thought into a trainer. It's been a while since I had outside motivation. Getting "formal" training would def add to the fire.

Thanks again, glad I found meso. Lots of good info and people.

I'd say you have a great base to work with here.

Real deal is 21.1% bf

Little hand held device from my gym. Unit asked my age, height and weight. I held it for about 5 seconds and it tells me I'm 21.1

So, about that 12 haha!

Who cares? It's about being realistic/honest with yourself. Now, you have a "starting" point (one cycle, but everyday is a new start in a sense). Let's kill it for the next 3 months and see where you go.

Without a doubt man. I was thinking I would be leaner but I feel and look good, am stronger than ever for me and am headed In the correct direction.

When I started the cyp I was 265. Didn't think I had that much extra weight. Getting the bf% put things into a different perspective for me, a new way to look at it.

I'm about to get into nutrition a whole lot deeper than I though I ever would. Gotta get that down to a science lol.

Wanna learn some good shit? Become a member for a month on mountaindogdiet.com, I think the first month is free. If not, it's like $10, try it for a month then cancel it once you've learned your shit. I learned a lot from Meadows and the docs on that site.... My $0.02
