Why get a tattoo?

Only just saw this when posting a question about tattoos, I am old (60) and have quite a few tattoos done, mainly from the 1980 onwards. They are BAD tats, basic dragons mixed in with 'tribal' ideas I had. Obviously all faded now but I dont regret any, if tattooing was free (it was when i was getting done), painless (I fucking hate people hurting me) and healed straight away (its really annoying having to protect them) I'd get them all tided up, or blacked out or around.
As soon as I saw body modifications I wanted them, used to have lots of facial piercings but took them out as they kept getting punched. Also have a branding which looks crap as they heal really randomly.
At 58 years old I started getting my face tattooed, why now you ask? Well the mortgage is paid up, I'm in a job where I wont get sacked coz of it but the main reason is I'd always seen myself with it, now its just visible to others.
On a site where body dysmorphia is the normal this may not seem normal but its not hurting anyone else but me and honestly, although you wont believe this it doesn't make me a bad person!

So that is a very low dose.

This is the most comprehensive meta-study on the topic, looking at all sorts of procedures done after accutane treatment and the results of potentially impaired skin healing after x amount of time.

TLDR: Plenty of examples people who were on larger doses than you having skin traumatic procedures like plastic surgery, immediately after stopping, and healed normally,

Personally, I'd give it 6 weeks anyway because it's better to err on the side of caution, and it's not a huge inconvenience, but at that small of a dose, the conventional "wait 6-12 months to do anything to your skin" that's been around for 30 years looks like it's been proven wrong by all this data, which was always in reference to a full course, not low dose (a relatively new way isotretinoin is being used).

By the way, I'm using 5mg/day for anti aging effects on sun damaged skin, and have seen visible improvements similar to topical tretinoin, with zero sides (not a surprise given this is a microdose).

Unfortunately 5mg tabs were discontinued in the US but you can get them from India pharma. $20 for 400 Accufine 5mg, and no fucking around with tretinoin cream for similar results.
Thanks for this (just note its in the wrong thread if you dont mind reposting it there for continuity). I was looking for 10mg but couldnt find as I want to stay on as my skin is soo much 'happier' (after the initial shock).

God damn, lol thanks. Took it out of here since it's ot.

I thought it looked cool at the time. I dont regret it since its small and barely noticeable. I would want to get it removed still. Reason being is so my kids don't get one later and then tell me "well you and dad have a tattoo!!"

I also think tattoos look bad on women when dressed up (personal opinion).
I love inked up women. I want them to stab me and say I love you at the same time

Always felt like face tattoos was a middle fingered
to society/anyone else's pinion
I was a super shy kid and thought everyone was staring at me, then I saw a punk with bright red hair and everyone was staring at him and he didnt give a f...
The idea (I think) was they weren't staring at me but at a character I was presenting (or some such bull).
Obviously it was soon super annoying to be stared at for just wanting to look how you want but you start to ignore it, which often makes me come across as arrogant or oblivious. I believe now I'm older that both are correct.

I'd wanted my face tattooed/marked/changed(?) since about 14 then at 18 I bumped into this lad in a chippie in London.
Straight away I knew what I looked like inside (or some such bull....) and its how I've seen myself ever since.
Now I look at that its pretty badly done (around 1984ish) and mine is much smaller lines as I couldn't get the bigger bolder lines how I wanted them now I'm all saggy :(

I still see him every soo often and now my face is started I want to tell him about when I first saw him, its now pretty faded and I'm glad that mine as new looks bright as I doubt I'd want to get it redone.

I like how they look on me. I only have two and not super big. It was an aesthetic choice and after a few years I still love how they look and I don't think I'll regret getting them anytime soon. I'll probably get some new ink next year.

I would not do one on my face, too much for me, but some people look good with them.

I've got a good amount of tattoos. Not covered from head to toe but my right arm is covered, with more on my torso and a couple on my neck.

Started off because I thought it was cool, then I thought it was pretty weird to only have one so I got a few more. I was subconsciously putting together a theme and didn't even realize it.

They don't all have some deep spiritual meaning but it's definitely a timestamp for where I was at that point in my life. The artistic ones are when I was doing some soul searching. The big neck tattoos are a "middle finger" as Spaceman put it.

If I started over I wouldn't get any - but I'd rather be covered than only have a few small ones.

Ironically enough I think it's extremely unattractive when women have a lot tattoos. I've been with some of those hot emo girls who had full arm and leg sleeves and it just didn't do it for me. The natural female body is fucking perfect IMO I don't think it needs any adjustments whatsoever. I already look like a wet dream to a cop that wants to fuck with someone, I need my girl to be sweet and innocent to get us out of tickets.

I like tattoos, I only have one but it definitely won't be my last.

My good buddy just died so in honor of him he gets a memorial tattoo on my ass cheek, it's what he gets for dying doing some dumb shit

I don’t have any but I definitely find chicks with tattoos very sexy but mostly for ONS I wouldn’t like my future wife to be tatted up. Yes the hypocrisy…

Tattoos were more badass when they weren’t as culturally acceptable. At any given Starbucks or Whole Foods 50% of people under 30 look like the wall of a bathroom stall. Gay(derogatory)!! I will continue my 27 year streak of having none. My girl is covered in them but she gets a pass for being a smoke show and starting to get them before they were a pre-requisite for having a Reddit account and a fondness for IPA’s.

My left arm is fully sleeved - all in a realism style. For me, the most important thing was finding a skilled artist and not cheaping out, since it’s on you for life.

Back in the day, I was really into graffiti - did a lot of pieces around the city, even on trains - so art has always been part of me. That’s what pushed me toward getting tattoos myself.

Some people attach deep meaning to their ink - family, life philosophy, motivation. Others just do it for fun or aesthetics.

Funny thing though - I realized over time that I actually don’t like tattoos on women at all. No idea why, but it’s almost a turn-off for me.
