Who here knows their supplements

Hey guys, I’m looking for a new carb drink and I’m seeing all these carb drinks have different carb sources and names that I really do not know the difference of.

The reason I want it is to add into my protein shakes to make a DIY gainer shake. Almost all gainer shakes on the market (everyone that I’ve tried) makes me feel super sick, and mixes like shit. Most proteins make me super sick too, and I think it’s cause they get their protein from egg whites and I am allergic to egg whites. I’ve only found a couple proteins that I can handle.

what I’m looking for in a carb powder is something that’s easily digestible, but not something that goes through super quick and low quality. I’m not using it intra workout, I’m using it more like a meal. I could easily just put ice cream in my milkshake and get carbs that way, but it’s not the carbs that I’m going for.

what carb shakes do you guys like to use for this purpose, or if you know the difference between them all, what would fit my needs the most? I’ve been doing research but basically the only things you can read are put out by the companies who make them saying “ours is superior and the best!” And pretty much almost all of them claim to be specifically for intra workout.

thanks

Have you tried just adding cream of rice or blended oats?

cream of rice and protein is my first meal. If I eat too much of the same thing I get so sick of it so fast. Blended oats is a good idea. Idk why I didn’t think of that :) A nice carb source that easily blends would be nice for on the go.

Oats will probably be your best bet. You can get sweet potato powder also, I've never tried it though. Check out true nutrition, you can make a custom mix with pretty much everything you could want for this... And more.

Cream of rice, usually in baby food section of stores. Shake/blend with almond milk, honey, mixed berries and pineapple. Great calories and digests very easily. You will like

Edit, never mind I guess lol.

I was just crushing rice until I got tired of it, now I’m on the mashed potato train

Check out redcon1s MRE, they have BOGO and 30-50% off all the time.

Most protein powders are made from dairy/milk and you might be lactose intolerant so you should try an isolate if thats the issue. Could also be that you are sensitive to sweeteners, some of them have a lot of that in them.

You could try beef, rice, quinoa or egg based protein powders, do some trial and error.

In regards to carbs, id just keep it simple with a mix of rice/oat powder, maybe some dextrose/maltodextrin and a protein source powder that works for you. If you are very sensitive you could go with EAAs but that gets pretty expensive.

I have been using a carb powder called Karbolyn from EFX sports. I use it intra workout but it would probably work well to add to a protein shake. I believe it uses rice- corn and potato carb sources and is pretty fast digesting but not as fast as cluster dextrin. It mixes really easily and I think they make an unflavored version. Worth looking into.

Being tired of Rice is not an option for me.
It's a mandatory 2x minimum a day item for me.
Soy sauce and I'm all good, a little potassium supplements to offset my insane sodium load snd I'm good.

I was the same eating it 3x a day, 400g cooked per meal. I had it every way, with butter and pepper, teriyaki, soy sauce, bbq sauce, etc etc. I kind of changed my method now. I get tired of meals too fast because I eat the same things way too repetitively.

Now I’ve got a new plan of changing my entire meal plan every 3-5 weeks (Depending on how well I’m getting meals in) and in the new meal plan I made just last night, I made sure not to repeat any meals. I’m not gonna eat the same thing more than once a day now, cause I just get sooooo tired of it and then eating is impossible.

It helps when it has digestive enzymes in it. Steer clear of malodextrin if ya can that stuff just made me feel like shit, my digestive system did not like it. It was the sole carb source in that mix though ugh. Im using redcon mre which is really nice. Mixes well and have not had any issues digestive wise and believe me I have had gi issues since I was a kid

ive found that dextrose and maltodextrin digest so much better if you dilute it enough. Digestive enzymes is a good idea though!

maltodextin or dextrose is usually cheap corn based. look into rice based kind. No bloat or discomfort. Many guys can't do cheap corn based malto/dex. Rice based is amazing

I figured this out years ago and I’m going to drop some knowledge. Go and buy a coffee grinder. You can find one for like 20 bucks but I’d spend upwards of 35 for a nicer one since the one I bought at Walmart broke after 2 months. 1/2 cup is what fits perfect and if you buy steel cut oats each half cup is 300 calories. It took me a bit to build up my tolerance but I was able to mix in a full cup of oats in a shake. The grinder will make any oat into a fine powder. Using just a blender or ninja doesn’t really grind them up all that well. Hope this helps my friend.

Quick oats do well in a blender
Karbolyn
Any HBCD, I use true nutrition brand currently

But for meals away from training quick oats are your best bet

MRE from Redcon is a whole food protein supp with little if any bullshit maltodextrin and whey blend crap. Check it out. Been great for me during periods when I just can’t get food down.
