What are your thoughts on this video about weights?

I literally was talking to another guy about this last night. Calibrated weights are great when you need to do near maximal training but otherwise who cares. It doesn't really make a huge difference either way until you get beyond 3 plates a side too but think if you want a 495lb pull and half the plates (like at my gym) are really 46-47lb that's a possible 10-20lb more on the pull then you thought. My gym has rubber coated steel plates and I don't think the rubber coating is very consistent as when one of the guys tested the plates I think like 80% of them were over by at least a pound with the most being 3 pounds over, only 3 or 4 of them we're negligible difference from 45lb and 2 were 44lbs. I guess it's good that when I do 5plate pulls it's really like 505lb so I don't overestimate come meet day but weird that they are so far off.

i personally think it matters. an old timer at my gym marked a certain brand of 45 pound plates and they all are within .5 lbs of 45. other ones vary. its why for deadlifts ive been using 100 pound plates. the 100 pound plates at my gym are marked exactly what they weigh. 2 of them are more than 1 pound over 100 and the other 2 are less then .75 pounds under 100. same brand, same plate. so, the other day when i deadlifted with them it was actually probably closer to 582-583 pounds and not 580. id prefer to train with heavier weights. or preferably calibrated plates. they do make a difference.

This video really but over the fence. I got a quote from Eleiko on a set that I customized. I was going to go with the cast iron plates that @theprodgicalson had suggested a few weeks ago.

But now I'll be getting the calibrated plates. Not this month most likely in June. I've spent a shit ton of money on toys the last few weeks lol.

But I'll have them right as I'm going into off season training, then meet prep training. I'll have coach for training me for both.

Eleiko has great customer service and they give me a nice discount of about 20%.

After using the comp bar yesterday for bench I noticed truly no whip in the bar at 375. The Texas power bar pales in comparison. But the Eleiko bar is .5 thicker. I checked the specs on the Texas power once I get and saw that.

Eleiko competition PL bar vs Texas Squat Bar

In my opinion the Eleiko wins again. It's stiffer than the Texas Squat Bar. Eleiko is 29mm diameter. Texas Squat Bar is 30mm diameter

The Eleiko bar PSI rating is 215,000
Texas Squat Bar PSI rating is 186,000

I know that many feds use a squat bar especially the ones I've been looking into trying to find a local meet.

That will be the only reason I still might get the Texas Squat Bar. But the Duffalo bar will be purchase first.

Idk we have kilo plates at our gym but rarely ever use them. Never seemed to make a difference in how it felt when it came to doing a meet where they used the kilo plates.
