Ulnar Nerve Entrapment/Cubital tunnel syndrome?

Hi everyone,

I tried using the search function and found some info for relief, but nothing that quite matches my cause for this issue.

I spent a week in the hospital with an IV Catheter in my arm. I started to develop numbness in the pinky finger and outer side of the ring finger, as well as that area of the palm. I currently have no pain in the forearm/arm, but some irritation by the area in my elbow where the catheter was placed. I have done some research and it looks like Cubital tunnel syndrome or Ulnar nerve entrapment. Fortunately it isn’t affecting strength in that arm, just causing a funny sensation. I’m wondering if the IV just caused some minor irritation and it will go away on its own.

Does anybody have any recommendations for alleviating this constant numbness? I sleep with bent arms so I was considering buying a brace for nighttime and limiting cell phone use with the affected arm during the day.

Anybody have experience with this sort of thing? Can various exercises help? I’m finding so much information on the internet it’s making finding a solution a major challenge.

Thank you all in advance!

i've had ulner nerve release on both elbows when they did ct surgery, i had acrushed ulner nerve from muscle overlapping the cubital tunnel, i must say though , since the surgery i no longer have numb hands or any kind of pain , accept for one finger on right hand that now has "trigger finger" that wasn't present before the surgery for ct, ,

Thanks for the reply. How long did you wait before deciding on surgery? I’m trying to be patient and wait for it to get better with some TLC.

i tried for months and months of micro dosing bpc157 etc, (waste of time& money) changed routines , finally went through with the surgery and it has been such a relief,,

Thanks for the heads up. My plan of action involved trying the bpc/tb combo to see if it makes a difference.

Fortunately there’s no pain, just tingling in the elbow, so I will be more than cautious with training. I’m really trying to avoid any type of surgery if it’s not 100% necessary. Looks like from what I’m reading online, not everyone has success.

Hey bro, did you ever get this figured out? Currently dealing with the same thing after a big hit to my wrist and am thinking about getting it checked out at the hospital.
You’ll likely need imaging and nerve conduction studies to really pinpoint if anything is wrong with the nerves.

For the OP, was your arm immobilized for any extended period of time during that hospitalization? I assume the IV was in the antecubital fossa (the other side of your elbow, between forearm and biceps). It would be unusual for the IV to cause these symptoms. You could also benefit from a visit with a neurologist for nerve conduction studies.

Hey all,

Sorry, haven’t been as active on the forum for the last few weeks because August is always hectic.

Since making the original post, I have consistently done a considerable number of nerve flossing exercises and the numbness has mostly resolved. I also wear a brace on my elbow while sleeping — yes it something to get used to, but helps me not bend my elbow during sleep as I often end up sleeping on my stomach.

I’ll try and find the exact video of the exercises I was doing, but honestly, I think they can make a minor or major difference as long as you’re doing something to alleviate the numbness/tingling.

thats good that the flossing excercises are helping, makes me think that its not so bad , i tried every kind of stretching , flossing etc , but my problem was in fact a crushed ulner nerve, in both arms, i have a rare muscle ( anconeous epitrochlearis) that goes over the ulner nerve and when it gets atrophy it compresses, getting old really sucks sometimes , all these unusual ailments present themselves,, but since the cts/ulner nerve release it has remedied the problem,, ymmv
