Don't get your knickers in a twist when you've read this post coz it's not trying to have a pop at anyone's choices but things are very different these days in bodybuilding/weight lifting/training/fitness etc so I'm just opening up a discussion (if you wanna get involved).

Unless you earn a living from modelling or competing in a sport why the fuck are you so focused with being ultra lean all year round and denying yourself the pleasures of living a normal life and eating a normal healthy diet?
Do you do it coz you like looking in the mirror everyday and worshipping yourself? Or do you do it to impress the girls/men in summer or when you ocassionally get a new sex hook up? Do you do it coz you spend a lot of your life naked/semi-clothed and being cut gives you confidence that you're beautiful and better than other people? Or do you do it for other reasons not listed here?

This is a genuine post BTW with genuine interest into the mindset of guys and girls that diet all the time and eat in really odd and unhealthy ways just to look good (lean) on the outside.

I thought it was a fashion for such a shape, a fashion for a low-fat body, and of course for many it turns into a disease.

Okay Well there are two types of shredded.

There's stage shredded, which acidosis nobody had any business staying like that year round.

Then there is normal shredded. You can see all 6 and ask well as nice quad definition, but you aren't taking diuretics and going through every day life with paper thin skin.

I like being the latter because I like it. My girlfriend likes it. It's obvious from the looks i get while hiking (and even literal comments or a few cat calls directed at me) they other women like it too, so it's a big confidence boost.

Plus I just feel better all around at this body fat range than if I am at a buffet higher fat level.

To me even before I got more into powerlifting, lifting weights was all about getting stronger & bigger while at the same time not being fat. I guess I am lucky with my genetics in that I am ectomorphic so will never get fat so I stay fairly lean without ever trying to be. But yes it seems nowadays all these guys want to be is shredded and to be 10 to 12% BF. Then when they start talking about the weights they lift its akin to a 12 year old boy!! What's the point in lifting weights to be weak and shredded?? I'll never get that mindset but I guess we are all different in our ideals of what matters.

It's strange how our minds work differently. The leaner I get the worse and less confident I feel.

Bodybuilding, to me, was always about getting bigger and stronger and I never feel good when I diet/lose weight.

I have never and will never be shredded, and I'm 100% ok with that. I like food too much, and unless my ozempic destroys my appetite I'll always have some extra weight.

There definitely is an obsession with being shredded among some people. There are 2 teenagers, 14 and 17 years old, in my gym. No muscle, pretty lean, and they're literally taking off their shirts and getting mirror shots...right in front of people every week.

For some, myself occasionally, it’s all about being the best you that you can be. That goes for business, relationships, training, nutrition, everything. Some high achievers just want to do everything as well as they can do them. High quality, nutritionally dense, whole foods

I eat whatever now lol. Usually a half a large tub of ice cream every night before bed. And have for many months. But I know my discipline to be great at everything will eventually return and I’ll start eating like a decent human again. But training…everyone should be married to training. It’s vital to living a healthy life. Mentally and physically.

The thing is I don't have to diet anymore. It's just how I eat, its been made intk a habit for so long that I feel sick when I eat sugary foods. I just always eat super healthy. That's my habit and I don't really think of it as dieting at all.

Now, every once in a while me and my girl will go on a kick where we will make some delicious desserts (usually like fruit crisps or banana bread or that kinda thing), usually when already bulking so it's makes sense to consume extra calories. But otherwise we don't make desserts. Dessert for us is like plain greek yogurt and fruit with maybe some honey and we both love it.

I am all for getting bigger and I definitely gain fat when I bulk, but I never seem to hold on to the fat much. I do hold onto the muscle thankfully, but I am not that huge either. I don't plan to ever weigh over 230-235ish. Once my elbows are healed I'd like to bulk up to 230, right now I am down to 218 (6'2).

I feel substantially more proud of my phyisque when I'm lean with definition. Being fat is easy. I love when people comment on my striations and v taper. I pretty much live in gym attire though

Yes, that's right, pride for your goal and, most importantly, discipline. That you, unlike many, can control yourself and look as you want. This is a good motivator.

So I kind of found my sweet spot for fat. I did the longest cut I ever did. I already do a ton of cardio just out of habit so that wasn’t hard. But there’s a point that I couldn’t push past without fasted cardio, Clen, yohimbe and dealing with tons of hunger. At the end of the day I’m just an enthusiast so there’s only so far I want to push the leaness. I’m willing to do the cardio and meal prep clean. I don’t want to run weight loss drugs nor do I want to deal with constant hunger that leads to late night binges. I don’t mind eating the vast majority of my own meals but I want to go out to eat and order within reason. So I found that point. I still have visible abs. I have loose skin from being fat as a kid which I think prevents my lower abs from looking as good as they could

Cutting for me is so dam easy, i can eat 1000 cals no problem, so odd. Its gaining weight for me i dislike. Hence why i am always bulking. If it ever come to the need to cut, i would flourish. But will never get there. My maintenence of where i am at is 3700 cals.

In general, I like it when I can vary my diet and can keep it under control like when I have a lot of calories or a little. For me, it's a game of purpose and purpose.

Women like shredded, That’s the only reason I do it. Go on tinder with a shirtless PFP sub 10%BF and it’s like fishing in a goldfish bowl. Just fucking 10’s all day every day until my dick gets a rash or it burns when I pee.

Who here is year around shredded? If anything, the majority of the board are fat perma-bulkers. A few cut and bulk, but I am not aware of any that are focused with bring ultra lean all year round.

Could you give us some examples?

I see so many posts from so many guys (across many forums/not just specifically here) that are always talking about dieting down to sub 10% and they're all always on calorie defecit (or restricted) eating plans.

No examples tbh I wouldn't target or highlight any member for doing what he wants to do anyway.

I stay lean year round for the same reason that I only put exactly enough gas into my car to fill it up rather than pumping gallons of excess out all of the fucking ground. It's a total waste of money and time to be fat. It just seems like simple logic to me. Food is more expensive now than I can ever remember it being and still you see these lumbering fat slobs all of the place. Why would I waste my money buying food I don't need and then waste time I could spend doing something else preparing and then eating that food. Bodybuilding alone already causes me to eat more than the average person I certainly don't want to make it worse by being fat. (BTW Fat to me is anything over 12-15% bodyfat)

So the lack of kcal is the basis and quality of nutrients.
