Snatch Grip Deadlift

Any one use the snatch grip deadlift as secondary deadlift movement/day? Was there any carry over to your comp deadlift?

I didn't find it specific enough. Deficit Deadlift would accomplish much of the same thing (longer ROM, body closer to the floor etc) but more specific to the Deadlift.

However for bodybuilding, a partial snatch grip pull has some value in back building.

Thank you. I think I will incorporate for back building purposes. I love deficit deads.

One of my early mentors was a huge fan of the partial snatch grip pull. He included it in most of his intermediate/advanced routines. The ability to keep your entire back, scapulae included retracted under a heavy load is amazing for back development. I'm not of the opinion that you need to do exclusively stretch and flex type of work for maximum development. Static retraction work under very heavy loads does wonders for the back. You can't say that for every bodypart but certainly for the back it works. Most of my back was built from Deadlifts 3-6 days a week.

I had to take a few weeks off form deads recently. But this training cycle has been the first training cycle in a long time that I have been able to consistently perform deads in my training. Little injures kept me from doing them. But I have noticed a difference in back development from the deads. And my traps have grown considerably from deads. I will be pulling tomorrow to see how my SI joint feels. I will only go up to 315 maybe 455. We will see how I feel. I will do more pulling in the offseason. I want to them 3x a week Obviously with light lighter loads. I need to get my technique ironed out. I plan to run the Smolov Jr Bench routine. See how that goes.

Like JC said, it doesn't have a tremendous amount of carryover to your competition lift but I love doing them. It's great upper back work and will help add some mass to your posterior chain when done regularly. When I was doing RTS style training I did them either weekly or every other week for something like @8-9 x 5-7

Thanks @Docd187123. That is the goal to add some more upper back mass.

I like doing deads standing on a 3 inch foam mat, teaches you to drive with the legs, since you're sinking into the mat and really have to push your feet into the mat to get stable on your pull...

I've done snatch grip before, but like most of these guys, it's mostly for back building, grip strength..
