100 years from now you will be completely unknown. 300 years from now you never existed.
When we are young we believe we can change the world. As we grow older we realize there are things far beyond our control. As I grow older one friend and family member after another dies, all those people that provide a frame of reference killed off.
I spent my life looking through a microscope......you control absolutely nothing, you have the illusion of free will, but you don't have free will, absolutely no free will at all.
Now you might be able to change a few laws locally, you might lower your taxes, you might help an old lady cross the street, perhaps you'll fight a battle or two. That's great, but does that really change the reality of life...nope.
I don't think people realize just how powerless you are until you study on the microscopic level, when you break everything down to just chemicals. Once you look at the nuts and bolts of life it doesn't take long to deconstruct the illusion that we have built up called the "self" and that is a total illusion, it doesn't exist in a concrete form, it changes constantly, it is constantly shifting according to the environment and can easily be manipulated or destroyed...that is your personal identity.
Deep meditation provides the state of consciousness without content. It's there where you will find the truth, that you as you, has been constructed, but it doesn't actually exist as you will notice it disappear after sitting for about 8-12hrs. This is how a monk can have gas poured on him and light himself on fire and not flinch a muscle. A pure conscious state is a state of pure nothingness and it is the most intoxicating feeling there is, it is the ultimate reality for us as humans. Those that have never done the work of hours of sitting to let all the bullshit settle out, continue to believe they know themselves, that they have power and control, when in fact they have never stopped long enough to pay attention to that monkey jumping around in their mind.
