Ray Williams - 1000lb Raw Squat Record

I cant believe that he walked it out squated the weight that walked back over to re-rack it, now thats power

Not only that, but did he not make that look fucking easy?
Yeah, that was unreal. I find it really interesting how a lot of those guys either make the lift with great bar speed, or miss it completely. Maybe it's because they train to be so explosive that they're not capable of grinding maximal weights.

I saw this on Facebook earlier. Insane.

Might be something to do with being able to fire 100% of your motor units or whatever.

I think explosion is a huge part of it. My programming now has certain days just training for explosion and it helps on max effort days (though we're talking baby weight). But Im sure these guys have programming dialed in.

Its my goal to just once get up an absurd amount of weight and have it documented. Doesnt even have to be in competition as long as its a legit rep. Shit like this gets my juices flowing.

What do you consider to be an absurd amount of weight for yourself?

For me, something above normal. I'd say 500+ bench, 700+ dea, squat... not quite sure. Just something above and beyond what you normally see anyone do, a number that would make people around in the gym stop and notice and talk about it. Im not fooling myself thinking I'll set any national records like PA, Rodger, MP or some of the rest of y'all but just competing against myself a number like I mentioned would be good enough.

When I do my meet Im doing a push / pull. I'll be disappointed if by Feb I cant do close to 1000. And I was just trying to get to 1000 on the Big 3 exactly a year ago.

I'm an old guy. I'm living with the stress I have put on my body the last 40 years. I feel like I have fucked up every joint in my body. I completely understand wanting to move the most iron you can, but now I question if it was worth it.

Dynamic effort has far more carryover to geared lifting than raw. Not to say it doesn't or can't help, just that it won't as much for a raw lifter.

After watching this s couple more times i gotta ask...was that the best rack they could find? I noticed it wobbling around and shit while he was unracking it. Man that would have sucked if that thing had collapsed on that dude:confused:

We're talking about 1000+lbs here. It's not 6in of solid steel either. Those things can hold a lot of weight but they're not 100% rigid.
