However in the case of Dover the arguments for irreducible complexity was at best shitty. Poor examples with very little evidence that could convince a layperson(the judge) vs the well funded paid witnesses that refuted the argument.
Last year a team of research geneticists took a single cell bacteria from a cows stomach and began removing genes one at a time.
They were trying find how many genes it took to support life.
They would remove one the cell would die...they start over leaving that one alone in the next try and remove another until they got it down to like 250 genes required out of thousands...all of which were necessary for the cell to stay viably alive.
What i found interesting was that of the 250 genes required for life...there were like 70 that the scientist have no idea what they do or why they were there. Nut removing any one of them caused death of the cell.
During this research the found a gene that is like a wild card gene. It is required for life but this gene has the "power" to direct other genes to make the organism into anything it is programed to tell them to be.
It was hailed at the time as a huge discovery for genetics because it can be manipulated easily to direct the rest to say become a heart muscle vs a bicep.
