Race to a 455lb bench press

Photos it is lol. I’ll use an app for an actual final attempt to 455.

unracked, bottom, failure point, locked back out with a bit of help.

No arch, probably shit leg drive. I’m def not a technical bencher. Only main focus has been getting my chest to work over my delts for growth.

Didn’t eat this morning was running late to drop kiddo off at school. Shot over to the gym to see what I had.

Warm up
BarX10
135x 10
225x3
315x1
405x1 2 sec pause
415- failed halfway up after a 1 sec pause

For shits and giggles single ply band
415- 3 sec pause
435 - 2 sec pause

Finished with some floor presses 125lb dumbbells 2 sec pauses

Need to add in more lat work and focus on the down technique by using all lats instead of chest.

Need to eat before next time, I will try in 2 days

Weight this morning after shit was 214.7 in undies

Edit
Final rep was 435 using single ply slingshot - cheater and I know those don’t count just wanted to

I took the week off from benching. I just finished a cycle last week and had some elbow tendinitis and some shoulder pain. Next cycle won’t start until end of December but I’m making benchpress a focus this winter.

I have my own equipment out in the garage but no one to spot or help with a lift-off.

Failed a 425 pound attempt then dropped it down for this 415 touch and go. My sticking point is the top half but grinded this one out. 425 felt good on the descent but bar stopped moving halfway up.

That’s a good press bro! What are you using to edit your face?

Good fight. Looks like you and I are neck and neck.

Yep. Except I have the advantage of being able to eat like shit and not worry about it. Sitting just under 275 pounds and a bit fluffy.

Just need to go slow and steady. Anytime I try to go too fast with a smolov program my joints start screaming at me.

Yoo bros. Hit 430lbs today. Bad angle, but the spotter didn't touch it. I gotta tap out because like @Perrin Aybara I am having some serious tendonitis in my elbows. I just started Creeping Death V2 and I'm gonna focus on that for awhile.

Nice, that was a killer grind. That's about how my 430lbs at my meet looked, I just couldn't quite lock it out. It'll be next year before I attempt a bench PR again. Probably gonna run Smolov again except without doing low bar squat along with it and see what happens.

I'm gonna edit and upload the video of that bench, give me a minute.

I used to have my wife spot me(90lbs). All I ever needed was maybe a finger on it. Came home from work. My wife is spotting me in my garage and I'm tired, not thinking. I was supposed to get 425×3 on this set. I got 2 then on #3 a couple loud pops like a belt breaking. I could hold the weight but couldnt lift it. Luckily my son was home to lift it off me. I would have had to dump it. I tore my rotator cuffs. Not only do you need a spotter but you need one who can get it off you! Lesson learned. Im 55lbs lighter now and can only board press.
