You'd have to go out of your way to send on the wrong network with MetaMask. I've not had any issues with payment, and while other networks are available, the defaults have always been fine. I guess people go looking and see lower fees or whatever, and that's where they get into trouble? Every service or wallet I've used, the defaults for the selected crypto network have worked.
Actually just went and stepped through sending via MetaMask, and I don't even have an option to change networks when sending USDC.
